tyre pressure sensors advice needed

Yes, I know it may be very boring for a subject but need advice.
My car is fitted with tyre pressure sensors, soon be needing new tyres fitted.
The question is, are high street tyre suppliers/fitters capable of doing this job without buggering them up or is it a main dealer job?? |

A company such as kwik fit should be capable of putting on new tyres, a tip here they will try and get you to put on new brakes as well, only let them do basic jobs such as tyres and exhausts, don,t be conned by their salesman patter on trying to get some more business out of you xx  |

The sensor is part of the valve so unless they are already damaged they shouldn't be an issue . Be careful with some of the bigger companies as there are sometimes hidden charges so what looks like you are getting a good deal isn't. |

Each valve is fitted in the car's memory in position. The car doesn't detect the position. So it knows sensor number 3 is in position near side foward (for example). If your tyre fitters take all 4 wheels off at once there is no guarantee that they'll go back in the correct positions... |

Tell them to do a written quote and Then take it to another garage to get a second opinion on any work that needs doing
Especially brakes which don't meet manufacturers tolerances yet will work corrwctly and pass a mot
Same with leaking shock absorbers and exhausts
Don't fall the tracking needs doing the places that sel second hand tyres are well cheaper and they will show you before and after measurement |

not necessarily true...
some cars (BMW and Mini and other german makes) have a sensor that detects the number of rotations of the wheels, therefore if a tyre is flat or softer it decreases the 'theoretical' circumference, therefore the tyre with the less pressure rotates more times than the others...
either way, any reputable tyre fitter will be able to advise you... certain cars have certain tyres particular to the vehicle... Audi have certain tyre manufacturers that specifically manufacture for Audi fit vehicles... but anyone in the tyre trade will advise you... |

That's why I found references to direct and indirect sensors. Only ever seen the ones that have the valve built in to them.

We had issues with the sensors on our phase 2 Laguna. We found by increasing the pressure of the tyre by about 2lbs and setting putting the correct pressure in the sensors reported no fault. |
