I went to buy smokes after work tonight in Tescos... (other supermarkets are available) and the guy behind the counter asked me if I was over 18!

I started to laugh and he looked at me quizzically... he was actually serious!

I'm 42!

When was the last time you were asked for ID and how old were you at the time?

I was asked in Tescos buying some wine last year.

I don;t drive, have no ID and don;t typically carry a passport to the supermarket.

As I pointed out: I have a job in London, a 6 year old daughter and a mortgage - just sell me the effing wine!

She pursed her lips and said, "I'll believe you".

Cow.

My local spar and co-op ask pretty much everyone under about 50. They started doing it as some people were getting huffy cos they were always being asked (oh to look that young!). So now they blanket ask almost everyone.

I couldn't actually believe it... I thought he was hitting on me with flattery but the expression on his face when I started to laugh said otherwise! I actually blushed.

Marc and I are asked on a daily basis.

He is 31 and I'm 27

Once, the woman at Tescos was so unbelieving of pur ages that she wouldn't even accept our NY IDs. We had to have a manager called over.

Most supermarkets in the US won't let the cashier scan alcohol without simultaneously scanning an ID card, so it usually isn't discretionary in the US.

Plus the legal age is lower here, so it feels more ridiculous to be carded.

I got asked for ID at a nightclub when I was 24, then didn't get asked again for ages, when I turned 30 I thought it's all downhill from here, lol. Then I got asked for ID when I was 32 (again at a nightclub). Not been asked since.

I got ID'd recently, but that was because the guy I was with was tipsy and looked 16 and the assistant felt uncomfortable asking my friend and not me. Before that, I was ID'd once many years ago. Funny story, I had a plaitable beard and hair down to my arse, went into a pub after work with some colleagues (some of whom looked 15), and I was the only one asked for ID

Happened a few months ago but I was still 38 at the time. It does happen a few times a year (or it used to before I turned 39 ) but at least I had a witness this time in the form of a work colleague who decided to help by pointing out my grey hairs and wrinkles. I don't think I look younger than I am, I just think people are crap at guessing ages generally.

At Birmingham Pride; I had to use my passport as ID, to buy some tobacco, as it's the only thing that shows my photograph and dob.

I left it on the counter; thankfully SS is understanding and paid for another one.

I hate T*S*O.

Ah, colleagues can be so lovely

I have to ID people when selling compressed air, but most of our customers are over 45 so I make it a joke and a colleague once said the customer looked younger than me

In September I was IDd for buying cigs. I'm 31 in a couple of weeks. I do have a baby face though. I was once told (age 17) that I could be any age from 18 to 34.

Won't have an issue now that I don't smoke any more of course!

I still get asked for ID near enough every time I go to a pub/club. People often think my 21 year old brother is older than me, he hates it!

A few months ago in the supermarket I went to ask a guy to reach a bottle on a top shelf for me, I got as far as "Excuse me" before he practically spat at me "No I will not buy you alcohol!" His face was great when I said "Yeah I'm 27, can you just pass me that bottle down please?"

I love it when the scan n shop thing says I have to be checked. Just occasionally, there might be booze in there and I will tell them obviously the machine thinks I look young enough to look 18.

The banter and flirting is the only good thing about food shopping

BTW.. Had to get age checked for a tom & jerry DVD once! Violence apparently.
