Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Are getting worse!

I had a call today from some chirpy bint saying she'd heard I'd been in a car accident and was I ok? Did I know I could claim? I said I knew nothing about that, so she went on to say that my car had been in an accident without my knowledge and I should claim.

Problem is, I don't have a car...

I guess people fall for this tripe but honestly!

We had one the other day saying my laptop had a virus in it and I needed to pay then download some software. Found it quite funny seems as it hasn't been used in about 6 months. It's in my room gathering dust

My dad gets those calls, he tells them they're welcome to fix his laptop if they can find it, he's never owned one!

I had one a couple of weeks back saying I could claim PPI back from a loan that my ex husband had taken out after we were divorced.. All sounded a bit dodgy to me so I just told them to bugger off!!

Ive had loads about car accident claims even though ive never been in an accident! When I tell them that they ask if I'm sure??? Lol

Me either. If it's a real phone call they'll just leave me a message.

It was a London dialling code. My main office is in London so I felt I had to answer it.

I got hit by a car when I was 15. Do you reckon I can still claim?

I actually enjoy playing them at their own game; asking them all sorts of questions, it's pretty funny when they get bored.

Never had a loan so can't claim anyway but get calls all the time. Because I'm not going to get any cash from them I pretend I don't need the money as I have too much anyway (I wish). Cue a few minutes of confusion on their part when I tell them I have so much money I don't want anymore and thank them profusely before going round and round in circles.

I just tell them we have never had an accident.

I DID yell at the woman who phoned my mobile when I was waiting for a call from my doctor when I thought I was miscarrying my baby.

She didn't know what to say other than to stammer an apology before I metaphorically slammed the phone down.

(The company name sounded vaguely medical and I wasn't exactly thinking clearly)

Don't see why not. They seem confident they can help. Give them the details and tell them to fill their boots.

I'd do it just for devilment.

Don't have a problem with people trying to sell genuine stuff, but outright lies and bollocks I have no time for.

Same. I also report abusers to the Information Commissioners Office, as they are now prosecuting and with bigger fines. You can report companies breaking the rules directly to them via their website.

I had one only the other day. I wasn't busy so I thought I'd have a bit of fun with him. I started chatting utter bollocks and after about 15/20 mins he rudely spoke over me to say "woman, you're crazy, bye" and then hung up... Best laugh I had in ages..

String them along, if you have the time, it's good fun. My cold calls are now non existence

Some tips, if you need any.

Ask those who call you to verify themselves, before you do, they called you....

Let them tell you, then ask them to post you the details, they don't.

Market research, give opposing views, Student, income £1000,000.

Computer virus, tell them you know, the police now have it.

We should share our best time wasting. Don't belive in shouting abuse, blowing a whistle etc at them, just waste their time.

Had one at work yesterday - from a PPI claim company - I said I wasn't interested but they started getting quite aggressive - in the end I said 'I'm not being rude but I'm going to have to put the phone down as you're not listening to me' and they still went on and on.

I understand they're targeted and commissioned on sales but being aggressive and assertive down the phone is out of order - I just cancelled the call but you can see why older or more vulnerable people are often caught out by cold callers - their style and technique is very persuasive!

Visit the Tube of You's and search for Tom Mabe cold caller.

The best way of dealing with them I've ever heard.
