Brighton - even Hove!

Who likes them? I'm a great fan of the 60's west coast underground scene, music and culture and although not strictly of this ilk, they are close enough to be included.....

It's a funny series and the style reminded me of Robert Crumb.

I've been a fan of the hirsute trio ever since I was old enough to read!

Gotta love a hippy upbringing

I had the complete collection of individual comics until I foolishly 'loaned' them to my uncles now ex girlfriend never to be seen again.....biaaatch!

A couple of Christmases ago however,I was blessed enough to receive the omnibus edition....happy days!

Fat Freddy's Cat is my favourite though....followed by Fat Freddy himself

Why do I bother? *sigh*

It was a comic strip started in 1968 featuring 3 freaks and their cat. There was Freewheelin' Franklin, Phineas and Fat Freddy Freekowtski.

Don't get burned Freddie!!

Similarly, I lost the majority of my early editions when I leant them to a friend who promptly disappeared overseas. Picked up some omnibus's in Amsterdam a couple of years ago and love reading them...great social histories of the times too.

Very true So many of the jokes n references went over my innocent wee head when I was 8-9 years old! Back then to me it was just a very funny comic with great artwork.

It was re-reading them as an adult(a term I use very loosely!)when I picked up more of the adult themes n jokes

Fave Fat Freddy joke....Freddy's in the bar as usual n the other barflys are talking about how great n loyal dogs are when Freddy pipes up...."I like cats myself, dogs are fascists!"....

"How can you make such a broad, sweeping accusation?"......

"You don't know what you're talking about!"...."How can you tell a dogs politics?"...say the other drinkers.

Fat Freddy-"Has anyone ever seen a police CAT?"

Yasssss! Gaun yersel Freddy Freekowtski!

The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers "Come Down"

"Who let that filthy, diseased cat inside?"......."I never noticed how dirty these walls were!"......"Ugh!Those dishes in the sink really smell bad!"

"I can't stand this another minute!"......"Me neither!"....

You know the ending

Definitely up there with the best of the freaks cautionary tales!

Another classic!

Even the cockroaches are funny as hell....the capitalist roaches in the small but resource rich kitchen Vs the commie roaches from the vast but barren wastes of the living room
