It's fine to read it, just not to pay for it. Always know what the enemy is thinking!

When travelling abroad I always take a copy of the Daily Fail.

I have this idea that security will see me and it and let me pass and also, I don;t want to tooo relaxed on holiday, so I use it to keep my blood pressure up.

"I have been buying the Daily Mail for over 35 years. It's no worse or better than others!"

The Mail actually has one of the last, genuine teams of investigative staff reporters of any national paper.

Shame it's obsessed with immegrants causing falls in house prices, rises in cancer, and Jeremy Corbyn.

Sadly not in my experience. Very poor standards of journalism aiming to make a fast buck and the truth be damned...

I'm thankful we have a free press in this country, good journalism exposes corrupt elites, one such example is the fifa world cups bidding scandals.

The establishment/government have tried and failed to crack down on the free press with recent Sun reporters being taken to court (at huge expense to the tax payer) with 28 out of 29 cases being lost by the establishment and victory for the free press when a public jury cleared them. The 29th case is currently in the appeal process and is likely that case will be lost too. What it boils down to was a personal vendetta by Gordon Brown and the Labour party against the Sun newspaper for switching sides from supporting Labour to the Conservatives back in 2010. Only Gordon Brown didn't see that the public (an independent jury) would not share his and Labours vendetta. We need a good strong free press in this country to keep the establishment in check.

Like the moral outrage you displayed earlier in the thread?

Also Sun/News of the world same company.

Also 28 out of 29 cases cleared by a public jury, that statistic speaks for itself. "

I wouldn't read any of them. They're all rags!

Agreed.

But if you found one on a bus...?

I still wouldn't read it. "

To be honest I'd read any of them if I found them on a bus and had nothing else to read. I'm more in agreement with _iamondjoe on this. It's impotent to read things you don't think you will agree with. Otherwise you just end up confirming your own bias.

Out of choice I would prefer to read the Telegraph, Independent or Gardian

You need to balance it out with either The Telegraph or Times. That way you get a truer picture of what is really going on.

"I've just read the above (Some one left it at the Bus stop)

I feel so Dirty . A great paper with lots of interesting articles ..No one is compelled to either buy or read it .

It seems that a lot of people are jealous of its success and that those who read it are responsible hard working citizens and not part of the something for nothing society.

I'm jealous of the billions in tax he avoids paying to this country, yes.

Comin' over 'ere, takin' out money, livin' as a tax exile in a French château whilst using tax loopholes to take his millions abroad.

If a millionaire proprietor isn't free to do that in this day and age I don;t know what the world is coming to!

I mean, really!

Gotta love his chutzpah.

He is all of his hate headlines in one.

You lefties all loved it when the Mail printed the Cameron pigs head story though. Make your minds up? "

I often wonder how they even found out about the story seeing as non of them ever read it.

Fake outrage. Mail has the largest circulation.

Many years ago it was The Sun, and before that The Mirror, see how times change.

I would hate to find only one newspaper for sale, bit like some of those old countries with the same party in government. .... we havd a choice

I'm no Mail reader but live and let live - if you don't like it go read the slant / version of spin that suits your own agenda. But don't kid yourselves that ALL newspapers are not manipulating you to think along the lines of their own Editorial teams because they are!

Bloody good job we all live in a country where currently we can choose which one we read, read several different ones if we wish and balance their content against the TV, the internet and our own experiences and comment freely on them, isn't it? Plenty of places in the World I'm sure people don't have what we have here. Oh, and saying that newspaper content here is shite is interesting because everything on TV we know to be true and unbiased, just like the internet, everything true and unbiased on there too I understand.

"Quite why anybody would still pay money to find out what happened yesterday is a bit of a mystery. Surely the entire concept has been supplanted by the accessibility of the Internet, 24 hour news channels, etc?

..and that's before we start on their various agendas, political and otherwise.... It might be because it is an enjoyable experience reading a newspaper and there are lots of interesting articles . I see enough of computer screens at work without wanting to use them at home as well.

. All these prosecutions are a complete waste of the tax payers money. You would think that the police and cps have better things to do..Still at least 28 were cleared and the other is being appealed .

None of them. They are all bad because all they do is filter yesterday's news through the filter of their owner's agendas.

I'm all for journalism as a governmental oversight mechanism, but don't see why physical newspapers are required to make that a possibility.

We read it online as it actually is well laid out the Web page..lots of pics to go with the stories...But it's probably the worse paper for journalism out there all headlines are. Extremely sensationalised completely out of context and they constantly write rubbish about isis. .. immigration... and Kim Kardashian. . Would never pay for it .. love reading the comments after the story though....

Very true, their online layout is second to none and the comments section gives a fantastic insight into the human psyche.

And this is probably why they have such a massive readership.

Since you raise the subject of MailOnline...

You may not be paying for it, but the advertising revenue they get from you clicking on their pages is what keeps them going.

Hence MailOnline being a major provider of clickbait...

I may not often find myself in agreement with what the Guardian says but in terms of quality of content, comment and journalism it's in a totally (and much better) league than the Sun, Mirror, Star, Express or Mail.

I would concede that of the old tabloids the Mail is the best quality and of the old broadsheets the Guardian is probably the worst quality but we're really starting to compare chalk with cheese if we try and lump them altogether.

I agree.

Confirmation bias is the reason is the reason that people who read The Mail think Guardianistas should be shot and people who read the Guardian think the people who read The Mail are unthinking, heartless cunts.

The Grauniad is in its own way as annoying as The Mail.
