Here is the Scenario, I visit a cafe near by now and then and sometimes sit in to eat rather than take away, now there is the usual regulars in there about 4-5 women ranging from mid 30's to mid 50's and anytime I am in there at lunch time they are always asking the young council workers guys in their 20's have they got girlfriends what did you get up to at the weekend do you fancy her or her talking about the women sitting in the cafe, and I can't help thinking if that was role reversed an it was older guys saying that to young women it would be a bit sleazy, Thoughts please.

I think it depends on how the person reacts to it, whether they are male or female. If it's all in good fun, it is fine. If the person is uncomfortable, then its sleazy - in either scenario.

I think this is down to how we percieve sexualised behaviour. We don't see older ladies as being sexual so its not seen as such. Personally anyone I don't know enquiring about my personal situation, sexual or other I percieve as a little creepy

Sounds like a bit of friendly banter to me. I'm sure the lads wouldn't be shy in telling them to sod off and mind their own if they were offended. Same goes the opposite way although I'd guess women would be more likely to take offence than men.

It's all about the context. It can be sleazy, certainly.

Pretty much as Courtney said, it has the potential to be sleazy no matter the genders involved, even an older woman chatting to younger women they don't know asking about their sex lives. But us Brits can be too polite to tell people to fuck off.

It's just banter , maybe a bit sleazy but sleazy can be OK

It doesn't sound particularly sleazy, as no one is asking anything other than if someone is 'settled down', as it used to be called. It may make someone uncomfortable, as it's a very personal question and potentially perceived as intrusive.

If sexual innuendo or something that was very leading was included, then I would see it as less appropriate, though even asking if someone is single would be deemed inappropriate by many, whatever the gender is of the person who's asking.
