I went last year, wasn't overly impressed but got one of the bar tickets and that was fine but not sure what I expected, there were Christmas markets there too with other attractions but if I was into skating then I'd have gone elsewhere.
You do get caught up in the Christmas buzz though and it was fun, so I wasn't as miserable at the time as I sound about it now! |

"I had a great time last year dancing to a live band and drinking WAY too much in the bavarian hof. It's all rather contrived and expensive but very jolly with the right company "
Would it be cheaper to stay in a hotel that's not near Hyde park? What is near Hyde park as in tube and other hotels?
I have looked and it's next to Kensington. |

We went last year andxwexwere fairly impressed. The ice sculpture exhibit was cool (pun intended) and the Christmas markets and food stalls were good. The only problem is, it's massive and takes a few hours to walk round all the markets. |

Look at cheap hotels all over London. The transport system is so good that even if you're a few mile away it will be easy to get to. you'll also have the bonus of seeing other sites on your way |

Well after Boris filled London with Boris Bikes, he got the London bus redesigned to bring back the vibe of the old Routemaster - Google Boris bus, they're a glorious modern design! |

It's just a bus! BoJo pledged to restore the Route Master so had one commissioned.
Hotels in the centre are more expensive but there are deals to be had. Try and find somewhere along the same tube line if you want to keep the travel really simple.

Dark blue (Piccadilly Line). But you can also get off at Green Park (light blue, Victoria Line), or Marble Arch (red, Central Line) or Victoria and walk from any of those.

Actually we just got the train in because we live near London. Not sure we'd have gone if we needed to travel and book a hotel. |

Everyone I know who has been has said it was very expensive. You need to book tickets for the attractions. I think if you just like wandering around soaking up atmosphere it will be ok. I have known adults to become separated from their friends and not find them for ages, it was so packed. |

2014: The most amazing Christmas experience that planet Earth has ever seen.
The Magical Journey, inspired by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, was closed early, which he found out whilst having a 'Christmassy time' at home, reading about it on twitter - poor thing.
Is the London one a step-up from that?

As much as I love all things Christmassy I really didn't enjoy.
It was very busy, very expensive & very cold, the latter obviously not their fault but makes the queuing process rather miserable.
I would advise choose your day carefully & if possible go early December before the holidays commence

My memorable Christmas experiences with my parents are going into London on a train with my mum and dad. Having a Sleigh ride in Selfridges that took us to Father Christmas; I got a little doll. I remember walking down brightly lit streets full of Christmas lights, and seeing shop windows with Christmas displays in shops like Harrods. We had chestnuts bought from a street seller and hot chocolate. I must have been about 6 and still remember it well. Oh and carol singers somewhere, maybe Trafalgar square because I recall the lions and it being cold. Christmas experiences don't have to cost hundreds of pounds. I remember how much my dad loved Christmas. |

I've been between Xmas and New year for the past few years and always have have good time. The fun fair rides are no more expensive than you might see elsewhere and I've always found there to be a really good atmosphere. Will be there again this year. |
