They're both very nice looking bikes, although I think I like the look of the Speedmaster more especially in matt black with the black Crome.
Having read the specs, there's very little between the two bikes apart from the looks. They butch use the same engine and suspension, although the gearbox is different. The Speedmaster is better for motorway cruising and the America better for around town, apart from that they're identical.

"...They butch use the same engine and suspension
Was the 'butch' a freudian slip? "
Lol, no just a typo....
"
Rocket 3 with stabilisers. You'll be fine "
It does weigh about the same as a small planet, so legs like Arnie wouldn't go amiss too. |

"Triumph America or speedmaster?
Looking for a first bike and really like the look of both bikes. Any thoughts?"
My advice is try and a old school rd 350 , or similar sort of bike.
I actually saw a 1982 xs 400 I thought it looked more like a 250 ' for 1200
Something like that will gather way more attention , than something big and modern .
And trust me riding a 1980 small two stroke is fun and easier to put in the front room, |

If it was me I would go suzuki intruder, better build quality and much better chrome than what triumph put out. Also the reliability and cost is much better if you do drop and need to replace parts. I will admit the rocket 3 is one gorgeous bike but it's as heavy as a hell and not good on fuel. |
