what sweets for the little monsters

the good lands, the bad lands, the any where you may want me lands

OH golly gosh, it's completely gone out of my head this year. If the beautiful people within the Lounge could help me, I should just have enough time to saddle up Marshall and walk briskly up to the parade.

What sweets do young trick or treaters prefer on a damp but warm all hallows eve?

My advice is buy some onions, dip them in melted chocolate or toffee. Kids think they are apples until they get home

I've always kept it pretty simple and just emptied a couple of the bags of the little fun size packs like maltesers and Mars etc into a little basket.

Gotta admit I love it when all the neighbours little 'uns come round in their outfits.

I get a mixture of small bags of Haribos,Freddos, lollipops and anything Halloween themed I spot in the shops. Never bubble gums and have something very small children can eat like Milky Bars.

Lots of those little bags of haribos & moam sweets, mixed in with fun size chocolate bars.

My problem is I always buy too much & we've got really polite kids round here, who only take 1 item each - the bowl takes ages to eat!

One day I'll be reduced to following them down the street begging them to take the sweets away!

I'm in a flat with a security system, I'll just be turning off my buzzer and ignoring the little buggers!

I'm a flat with electric gates so the buggers can't get to the door.

Question for those who will be taking kiddies out tomorrow evening.

We are planning on getting the chiminea going & sitting out in the back garden with some drinks & food etc. We won't hear the front door so are thinking of making a trail around the house to the side gate (end of a row) to where we are/treats are.

Would you feel comfortable taking your kids onto someone's property like that even though there were signs saying "little monsters this way" etc?

Nah, wouldn't take kids off a main road.

I'd been thinking the same myself...I mean, how frightfully mean would you have to be to disguise an onion with toffee and pass it off as a toffee apple

Come on guys! where's your party spirit, the kids deserve some humanity too

That sounds really exciting and fun but I wouldn't have taken my two onto someone's property under those circumstances. I feel a little sad saying that though because kids would love that sort of thing.

It's not like some of them aren't dressing up and partying themselves. Halloween is for children as well and if they can't be little monsters at Halloween when can they.

I was worried that the locals would think this

We were planning on decorating the side of the house with skeletons pointing the way, its only the width of the house but I take the point.

You could leave a bowl at the front and check it every so often

Well, I created a tunnel of cobwebs from the gate to the front door, covered with plastic spiders & with carved pumpkins lighting the way - lots of little monsters visited & all the sweets went

The kids loved it, all saying how scary it was making their way to the door though all the hanging cobwebs - think I'll do that again next year !

That's obviously where I went wrong...thinking that not having any lights on and a big hound howling from within would attract them
