Kids clothes?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Does anybody else have problems buying clothes for their kids, my Autistic lads wont go into the shop, so I have to guess, the age/size for them are never right, and if I get the waist right, the legs are ankle swingers, but if I get the length right, they keep falling down, and they wont let my tie the cords because of sensitivity issues. Do any other parents with Autistic kids have this problem? Any advice is appreciated.

Chams or Socials

My 2 are very different. Eldest is 14, tall & painfully thin. So everything fits legs but too big in waist. Youngest is 9, has an under active thyroid & is built like a rugby player so fits waist but way too long. They should wear shorts all year round!!!!

Yes I have the same problem... Used to be fine before she was a teenager. Now she has to have certain styles.

My step son has asperger and we have been clothes shopping he won't try things on. Then too much choice then styles before we even get to textures and labels.

So we give him a choice of 2 items to try and go from there.

Good luck x

Can you measure them?

If so, I find H&M kids clothes pretty good especially for boys and the sizing is accurate ~ they have a height chart up and then the matching size range on the label

I used to get most of my boys clothes in there & he never came with me...

Both my lads are 13, but totally different sizes, and have meltdowns in the shops, so it is guess work.

I'll give them a try, that's part of the problem, age and size aren't the same in all clothes. Thanks.

Clothing manufacturers should all get together and moderate their sizing in metric measurements and ditch the age sizes.

My son never conformed to the age / size range ~ he's always been lanky, straight up & straight down, no bum or hips! H&M worked for him & the price worked for me

I've bought clothes from the same company, where a one item was a large and another an extra large. I used to buy Jeans that were 32 from one make and there was room to spare, yet 32 in another make put my plums in my throat. what is going on out there?

My son wont have the tie cords done up, so his bum's always hanging out, and I'm constantly saying " pull'em up", and the tighter waist trousers for him are halfway up his shins.

measure what they have already - if a pair of trackies are two inches too short buy them the right length - waists are often elasicted therefore variable - tops are not that difficult to guage - shoes another matter altogether

To be honest, it's mostly the trousers, they have issues with tight fits on waist and ankles. Guess I've made it this far, they'll be into mens soon, so that's a new adventure, lol

If you need new school trousers BHS have different fits and lengths. I get my podgy grandson a generous fit short leg, which fits perfectly. I don't know if their other trousers come in different fits.
