MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

What about it?

Its an inflammation in the cartilage between your ribs and chest bone.

It can flare up suddenly, and often self help is the best way to ease it. Paracetamol if its painful, or ibuprofen if you can take it? Also rest it if you can - anything that makes it sore should be avoided.

Gentle heat can help too.

It can last anywhere from a few weeks, to months (sorry to be bearer of that wee snippet of joy)

Hope it eases soon.

I misread the title

I thought it was something to do with spending too much time in Costco being a medical condition

My mum has COPD among many other ailments and she suffers from this pretty badly due to years of chest infections and coughing causing muscular damage.

Sadly it presents itself in a way that looks like a heart attack. It then means another cyclical hospital event. For her there is no treatment or way to repair the damage.

In healthy people that's not the case . It's does get better but can see you in a lot of pain for up to a few weeks. The onset can be pretty scary too.

...Up on the Downs

What is the cause? I have had something similar from a fall off a horse but it healed over a few weeks. I also damaged the ligaments between ribs another time we think and that took a lot longer.

I have been suffering for a few months with it ...I just get the hot water bottle and paracetamol oot but I find mines worst at night and getting in and out of bed is painful. Back off to Drs because it doesn't seem to be clearing.

It's an allergic reaction to a certain chain of coffee shops.

I've had intercostal muscle problems from Cricket before and that's very painful. Not really too much you can do, unless you are a top grade sportsman the treatment tends to be anti inflammatory tablets, rest the area and massage, if you can afford to.

Hope your situation improved.

I've had it a few times now. I tend to get asthma related chest infections, and then this after coughing/struggling to breathe.

No magic cures. Pain relief, warmth and ibuprofen if you can. Keep mobile but don't push doing anything that hurts. For me it lasted anywhere from a few weeks to about six months.

It can be linked to spondylitis and if so is a long term condition unfortunately

Best to have a good chat with your gp
