Hiya Everyone,
Marc and I are planning our holiday around Christmas time (we get the holiday season off without having to take personal days  ).
But we can't decide between three options:
-Southern England for a week
-Scotland for a week
-Europe (either France or Spain) for the week.
If we stay here we can take our dogs, which is seriously tempting.
Any recommendations/opinions would be appreciated.

If Scotland get a cabin with a jacuzzi the dogs will love the countryside if going to Europe would have to be canaries for some winter sun if you want to swing when away playa. Del ingles in gran canaria is place five clubs four within few hundred yards in cuts centre you don't pay to get in so you just leave if not enjoying one and go next door |

You had better dig deep for a UK cottage break, especially one with all the trimmings.
A lodge aside a lake surrounded by steep pine covered hillsides would be lovely though |

Might be worth checking out blue chip holidays they have loads of places in my neck of the woods down in Cornwall and they are dog friendly.... Well some of them are |

Stay in the UK - flights are prohibitively expensive and prone to fuck ups with a slight change in weather (remember last Xmas??).
Leave home, certainly. Scotland is good, as is Cornwall.
Glastonbury's nice too |

scottieland is a beautiful place but will be very cold ,Dorset is beautiful new forest especially for walking ,Europe Germany maybe remegen where the dam is very scenic or if you want heat the canaries maybe lanzarote |

That said, everyone else will probably think so too which bumps prices up, but you may get something cheaper away from the tourist hotspots so e.g. the Northumberland coast or borders region which are still lovely. |

Yes, it does sound idyllic, and yes you're right that others will probably agree. Seems everything is expensive at that time of year. Why can't everyone else just stay home with family? |

Berkshire is glorious at this time of year... 
If it was me I'd head to Scotland and do some walking through the Glens. Or Iceland. But that wasn't one of your options ..  |

Landmark Trust are brilliant. I went on a hen do to a big old country house from 16th or 17th century in Scotland where we had the run of the whole place and ended up topless dancing on a grand piano  |

Landmark Trust are brilliant. I went on a hen do to a big old country house from 16th or 17th century in Scotland where we had the run of the whole place and ended up topless dancing on a grand piano "

Arras in northern France is amazing at Christmas and the square is stunning. Cheap ferry bookings and cheap hotels, there's even an excellent train service into Paris for less than £50 for two and a short walk away.
I really should be employed by the Arras tourist office, lol.

I spent the first 29 years of my life holidaying in the UK, there are so many beautiful places to see.
My favourite areas are the lake district, Wales, peak district and the Yorkshire sales. |

We've decided on Scotland. Yay! We picked out a cottage and everything. Hope to have it booked by the weekend.
Looks like I'll be meeting some forumites with super sexy accents.

Nicer than scotland in my opinion.
and no passports needed for the dogs.
Theres a brilliant old fashioned hotel next to Ullswater, called Howtown and they allow dogs. ( waitresses even dress in black with old fashioned pinnies)  |

I went through a phase of going away for Christmas itself, I would fly out on Christmas Eve for 3 weeks to the Caribbean or Indian Ocean and enjoy the sunshine. We are thinking of doing New York in December - having just returned from a big trip in America but I think I'd miss my dog too much now! I didn't like being away from him even if he is annoying at times so if I had a choice I'd stay where I could take him with me |
