Weird sandwich fillings..
Jump to: Newest in thread
I work in a deli/bakery type place and we make baguettes to order. Normal stuff usually like tuna mayo or egg, chicken coronation or ham/beef.. You get the picture.
We also do hot bacon and sausages.
A while back someone asked me for a bacon and branston pickle sandwich which to me sounded pretty grim but others at work said it would be nice.
Well today I got asked for a bacon baguette with cucumber and tuna mayo..
Hands down wins the most disgusting sounding sandwich filling ive ever made. |

"I can't quite believe people eat banana sandwiches. Just the thought of those textures together makes me feel weird and horrible. "
The same does it for me with prawn sandwiches. The texture of a cold, flabby prawn against bread, yuk. |

" at some of the peanut butter combos. For me it only goes with jelly (jam)."
In our household peanut butter goes with: apple, onion, jam, Marmite, sultanas, celery, honey, chocolate spread, bacon, lettuce, salt, or sugar.
Marmite goes with lemon marmalade or lemon curd or cheese.
Chocolate spread goes with lemon, orange or lime marmalade/curd, any jam, crushed granola, sultanas or slivered almonds.
I could go on
Needless to say the kids prefer it when I make their sandwiches
(On Fridays I've been known to give them chocolate spread with sliced Crunchie)

Why disgusting?
The biggest problem in this country is mentality about food. Everything is so simple, everywhere everything is the same.
Bacon, sausage etc.
Very boring,
Sometimes you can find new shop with great different foods, and what is happening on next few months? This shop is closed because people are so limited to open mind.
Sorry to say that but this my experience from around 20 years.
What's very sad you can't do nothing....
Have nice evening |

"Cheese and ketchup... Red Leicester is the best!"
I lived on cheese & ketchup sandwiches as a kid. Still love it today. Even better with a spicy ketchup (there's this amazing import Polish one you can get from Londis) |

Haha.. This business has been running 50 years and has 18 shops over kent I don't think me thinking a tuna and bacon sandwich is disgusting is suddenly going to put it out of business!! Even the woman ordering it started with 'I know this is a strange pne but...'
And I'm fairly sure this country has bigger problems than someone thinking a sandwich filling is grim! |

Fish fingers sandwiches are amazing!
Omelette and marmite? Couple of people have mentioned eggs and marmite now I'll have to give it a go! Diet suitable as well. |

"Peanut butter and cheddar.
But that's not weird. Is it?
I might try that. I love peanut butter."
Have you tried peanut butter and Nutella?
I used to have tomato and salad cream sandwiches as a child, the salad cream stops the tomatoes making the bread soggy. |

My sister used to eat pickled beetroot and lemon curd sandwiches.
Prawns of any kind in bread is wrong. Actually any seafood with bread is wrong except sardines on toast. |

I can't believe no-one mentioned beef dripping, surely I wasn't the only poor one
Anyhoo...
...all sandwiches, on the last day before half-term, must include hundreds and thousands - for that special 'party' feeling

They're usually with the cured meats and sausages.
I prefer them cold but they can be heated.
They're also very easy to make. |
