Not sure whether to laugh or cry

Got 3 letters in the post from Inland Revenue this morning
Opened the first and it said "you owe us £178.38
Opened second one and it said "we owe you £178.38"
Opened third one and there was a cheque for £177.38
Don't know if to laugh or cry, and why is the cheque for £1 less than they were on about??
Confused or what lol |

Check the dates on all the correspondence.
Maybe the 'we owe you' prompted them issuing the cheque but if it was a mistake maybe they sent the 'you owe us'
So maybe you shouldn't bank the cheque (if you know what I mean) |

I got a £3000 refund cheque a few years back, so I spent it
Six months later I got a letter saying I had underpaid my tax by £3000
So I said "fuck it. I will pay you back £30 a month"

I would call and ask. The government has the right to reclaim money it has given you mistakenly.
Imagine getting another letter in 3 years time saying you owe them that much money because they mistakenly gave it to you and you deposited it without question?

My tax has been all over the place for the last year so I rang up and after an hour on the phone I was told I should get a cheque for €3450 and an extra €97 a week in my pay packet. Sounds to good to be true right
Got a cheque for €340 and €7 extra in my pay. I have my car already picked out. Bast?•ds |

Ring them to check. But tell them to turn their computer off and on again before they do. |

"I'm off to open the letter from the inland revenue that's sat on my table all morning "
DONT!!!!
it will be a cheque for £13,000,000 pounds. You will go and buy a holiday home in the Bahamas. The tax office will then send in the SAS to kidnap you and return you to the UK so they can hand deliver the letter asking for their money back
Its a trap |

Most I've ever had back was 30 quid once. I remember as a student I was told I could claim back the tax on the 16 hours I worked per week for two years. All my friends did and they told me no |
