He killed his girlfriend, got given 5 years which I feel was far too short, but going to be out after a year! Even our strange set up which means you get 5 years but serve half with good behaviour but a fifth??? I feel sorry for her family!

Watched most of the trial and was suprised that he was not guilty of murder given the facts and his rubbush excuse that he thought there was intruders in his house.

No doubt he will sell his story and appear on tv and make millions.

Feel sorry for his victim and her family.

His colour would have had little impact in comparison to his political and social connections. Had he been politically well connected he may well have only got house arrest.

And that! I don't think he was treated the same as a poor, Unknown, able bodied black guy would have been.

An experienced judge who heard all the evidence and considered the case very carefully found him guilty of culpable homicide. You may not agree but the findings of the court is what matters.

Heard this on the radio yesterday. Five years was too little in the first place. To be let out after only 12 months, is an insult to his victim and her family. So is this how it works in SA, or only if your rich and famous.

Bit picky but just to clear up the OP you don't get out half way through your sentence here for good behaviour. The sentence is 50% custodial 50% on license, behaviour isn't the factor people think unless you commit crimes in prison and get additional sentence added. Murder is mandatory life with a minimum tariff which is dependant on behaviour and attitude etc.

As for Oscar it's a joke imho I feel sorry for her family. I know the attitude there to guns and burglars is very different to here but if you hear someone in the house and get your gun you check your loved ones first unless you're a moron

When Lance Armstrng got caught his books went from the high street at £11.99 to charity shops for 20p in minutes. The guy has serious mental health problems, it is unlikely to make him much money...

Sorry, i didn't know, are you in love with Reeva Steencamp? .

The Law is what enables us to live relatively peacefully in this crowded world. We rely on an educated, experienced and unbiased judiciary coupled with due process of Law to see that justice is done.

The alternative is anarchy and lynch mobs. One day one of yours may be charged with a crime. You will hope justice will prevail and be proportionate.

It was a farce. Hes a murdering bigoted cunt, I lived in South Africa. The racism and hatred there is unrivaled. There attitude to guns and "self defence " is extreme. He knew who he was shooting though. His fame has saved him.

I'm not surprised at all. From what was said in court during his trial he should not have been allowed to own a gun. I was in Johannesburg in the nineties. You could buy a gun without any checks being carried out, you only needed to present your ID. Then there was the cheap ak 47 coming from Mozambique civil war on the black market. SA has more guns than USA considering the population.

"If he was black, he would have got a full life sentence"

If he was black, well known and rich, he would possibly have never gone to prison at all. The SA justice system is softest on wealthy, black, politically well connected individuals. They sit at the top of the pyramid.
