It could also be the Americans are doing alot of fracking and get alot of oil from Athabasca tar sands. Apparently nearly self sufficient in energy again.
made them pull their socks up a bit with their supplies.
Alright their taps occasionally catch fire and Athabasca looks like a lunar landscape but at least the price of oil has come down a bit. |

"whats petrol prices got to do with china"
the amount of oil being used as opposed to the capacity of oil in the entire system....
opec hasn't reduced the amount of millions of barrels being produced.... america has also produced more oil so they are less dependant...
also with the world ecomony as it is china actually isn't using as much oil as they were....
its a case of supply very much outstripping demand at the moment... which is why the price has dropped |

Funnily enough I filled up yesterday, diesel and the price had gone up from £1.07 to £1.09. Petrol had stayed the same at £1.08. While the price has dropped from the £1.40-£1.60 it was it does seem to be starting to creep back up.
Like everything else, politics comes into play with world oil prices. China, as mentioned has slowed, but Saudi etc have continued to pump at the same capacity to disrupt other, smaller oil producing countries. |

"I wonder how low it can go, have it ever been at 0.99?"
sad to say I am showing my age here, I remember my old man filling up his Hillman Minx for the equivalent of around 15p a GALLON in the 60's. |

"you might think its all good the price being low and everything else getting cheaper but that isnt the sign of something good coming.
" .
Deflation reared its head again only the other day!.
We'll continue on the deflationary trend, I pointed out some months back that the money supply has been contacting for some time now, the first time since the great depression!... The worrying thing is, it shouldn't be, the central banks are pumping in money and we should be seeing massive inflation from it, this leads people to belive that, that money is being hoarded at the top of the money tree, for far too long governments have grasped to the dogma of trickle down economics even though they've been proven false for years!
What we're actually watching is the slow destruction of capitalism through the financialisation of everything and a few people on wall St and London ploughing money into any load of shite they can, because moneys free, were paying them to take it off our hands and in turn there buying junk bonds in fracking companies in the states that are going bust faster than a fracking well drys up (50%drop in 6 months).
When yields on 3 year bonds are paying 0 and countries start contemplating negative interest rates things are very sadly wrong! |

Well you might not belive it but back in 2000 the UK had a fuel protest over prices... There'd reached the dizzy heights of... Wait for it 80p a litre
Oil had climbed from 10 dollars a barrel to.... 30 dollars a barrel
And people weren't happy |

That's what happens when demand outstrips supply, and now supply is outstripping demand through global downturn
M king Hubert did a very good mathematical calculation for oil supply that worked out exactly as he'd predicted for US oil in 1972!

1.07 at Oldbury Asda tonight. The other reason is that alot of financial speculation in commodities such as Oil is being run down as Chinese economy grows alot more slowly than was expected last year. Copper price is getting destroyed as well. |

Opec are not reducing production because they are trying to bankrupt the heavily leveraged frackng companies and take them over
So they can raise prices again later without competition |

In the US the obama administration is oppossed to oil, gas, and coal and insists on promoting the manmade climate change propaganda. The drilling is on private and state land not federal land or waters. Oil prices must be high enough for hydraulic frackturing to be cost effective. I wonder if the oil producing states are maintaining production in order to make fracking companies go out of business. It is conservatives who support drilling and energy independence. |

49.9p here and you get an accumulator card giving an extra 1p per litre off each time you buy over 30litres up to a max of 10p.
So on average I'm paying 44.9
I love LPG |

I love LPG " not many put more than 30 liter in, some cars thats nearly a full tank, and the 1p a liter off supermarkets just add it on items in the shop, also tax lose out less being paid, it was only a few years ago when fuel was 1 40 a liter. |

My van was built as dual fuel and will take nearly 50L and my wife's car, a conversion with a toroidal tank in the wheel well, takes just over 40L.
I can't see me ever buying a non lpg vehicle again now.
I can't see why more people don't drive them. The emissions are lower too. |

The Eagle Shale fracking in South Texas boosted their economy hugely and led to Texas being the world's second largest oil producer after Saudi Arabia. Sadly they don't have sufficient refining facilities so had to export and then import it again. It's boosted the Texas economy to such a position that there was a lobby looking for the state to leave the union. |

"Conversion costs and working on a car when it's under warranty Hydrogen fuel cells might be the future for cars ?"
Was this aimed at the lpg post?
I don't drive cars new enough to be under warranty and only buy ones already converted. They don't cost any more than an unconverted car. You need to be sure they have an installation certificate with them though.
Hydrogen fuel cells would be good.
I've always thought a miniature nuclear reactor would be perfect. It would only need a pea sized bit of plutonium and the reactor could run generations of cars as it would outlast each one. The plutonium could be very low grade. |

"Yes Lpg might do better if car makers offered it as a choice."
I think Volvo did for a while when the government were offering an incentive.
My van came straight from manufacturers converted.
Mainly they are all aftermarket ones though. My wife's car is lovely to drive on either fuel. |

Tight oil requires a different refinery than conventional oil.
The eagle ford has been one of the largest shale finds along with the bakken but both these fields are due to peak within 5 years according to the oil producers own data, the Monterey shale play was downgraded by 96% by the EIA only last year!
The biggest cause of the fracking boom was oil over a hundred dollars a barrel and credit at 0% one of the reasons the Saudis have refused to reduce output! |

"Conversion costs and working on a car when it's under warranty Hydrogen fuel cells might be the future for cars ?"
Hydrogen fuel cells are brilliant but they have one slight problem!
Hydrogen... It's nearly always bonded to another element, it takes the same energy to separate it from oxygen as you get from the separated hydrogen so in effect you need huge amounts of energy to get the hydrogen to run your cell(when you burn it your actually bonding it to oxygen to form water, it's where it gets its name from, water forming). |
