If I'm at work and getting paid, I do as I'm told.

If it were instead of my usual duties, and I didn't suffer loss of pay, yeah of course.

"If asked, clean your bosses boots ?

Not a rule

Just one of them opened his boot, collared the apprentice and said 'am goin out ... clean this lot for me for when i get back'

In fairness the lad just got on with it, but I'm of the opinion that it's a shithouse move

I would never dream of asking a colleague to do something like that regardless of my own (or their) standing within the business

Many years ago I was asked to wash my bosses car with another member of staff. It was a Rolls Royce.

When he had gone my colleague picked up a yard broom, told me to play the hose on it and we promptly cleaned it!

Can't really imagine the circumstances where that would happen in my job, we don't really get muddy sitting at computers. So the mud would be entirely non-work related, so no I wouldn't.
