I'm looking for job ideas for work that can be done from home.
Does anybody here work from home and what is it that you do ?
Anything that should be avoided ?
Thanks in advance.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else |
I suspect I know where you're coming from, but I'm a great believer in doing a job you like (at least a bit) otherwise it's just soul destroying giving up half your waking week.
Any travel that is necessary to get to a job you like is well worth it.
That said, there was a thread the other day about selling on eBay - maybe some other ideas came out of that...
I have a friend who has just started a nails (manicure) business. Key decision was if she would host at home, and if so, in which room. There could also be insurance issues even if you're not having customers visiting.
Good luck |

I'm a graphic designer, web designer and photographer ... most of my work is at home - which means I invariably stay up all night to keep my deadlines!
However - this is always worth a watch

You need to be very disciplined to work from home. It really depends what you're good at and whether you want to be self employed? That will influence what you can do. I've been self employed and I'm lucky enough to be able to work from home in my current employment but that is only since proving my worth working full time for the same company. |

I do the majority of the time, although I was initially based in the City. I sell software so typically most conference calls can be held online, although some clients do require face to face meetings still (once or twice a week). |

Things to be avoided - I've heard of some scammers that want to use your home as a post forwarding address. It's usually to handle stolen/illegal goods. I've also heard of companies requiring you to pay in advance for loads of checks - apart from CRB, I can't think of any other necessary ones (perhaps credit if you're working for a finance company?). |

I work from home sometimes all I need is a connection and phone to do my job however I find it so much easier to go into an office as I get distracted easily.
If you have more discipline than me more and more jobs in the financial sector allow working from home. |

I work from home doing e commerce but also as an adult text chat operator. I cant go into too much detail on the forum but I have been doing it for 15 years and it more than pays my bills. If anyone would like information please send me a message. Only thing i will say is that you will need a desktop pc or laptop to do it if you pass. Xx |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
I work from home most of the time but you do have to think about things like heating during the winter (I wear layers), having somewhere to store things (I try to be as a paper free as possible but I still have a a couple of shelves of box files) and good phone and internet.

It is a bit tricky really. It needs to be something with very flexible hours as I have to fit it in around certain things and do it as and when circumstances allow. A long shot I know but there must be something out there. |
