When was the last time you wrote a letter?

Not a business letter, not a typed letter but an actual handwritten letter?

When was the last time you sent something through the post? Christmas cards don't count!

I send random nonsense post to my friends all the time and I wondered if anyone else does this? I see cards or silly things that make me think of someone so I buy them and stick them in the post.

It's so nice to get home from work and find something behind the door that isn't a bill or junk mail. Makes me properly smile.

My challenge to you is to go and buy a stamp and send someone in your life a card or a letter in the post and see just how much joy it gives them.

Who's in?

I once wrote to an electricity company with alternate letters scrawled in different coloured crayons to stop bothering me.

Do you know what?

They did

I can cheat at this as I've got to go down the lost office this afternoon with some stuff I've to send

I wrote a letter last week for my youngest to take to cub camp. It was sealed for him to read if he felt sad or was missing home. I came back sealed & a bit screwed up in his bag

I don;t think I've written an actual letter for years - and I used to write epistles all the time.

Email's much easier.

Yes I know email is easier... go buy a stamp and send a card in the post to your little old lady telling her we all love her... bet she'd love it!

I always send my Mum postcards from holiday. They never say anything meaningful "weather nice, having a good time" that sort of thing, but I know she likes it and if I ever stopped that would upset her. But I haven't written anyone a hand written letter since I was a-wooing

I used to write to her a lot. Remember getting the keys to the roof of our apartment block when I was chair of the management committee and going up there to write when it was sunny.

I used to write to my grandmother until we moved back here and then she died a couple of years back, which made the whole thing redundant.

I love the idea of writing to someone. I don't think I've ever done it. There's a romantic quality to it I like. Ladies send me your addresses so I can start writing to you

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

It was National Letter Writing Week not long ago.

I received a handwritten letter thanking me for something and inviting me for a drink to say a further thank you. I replied with a letter.

I send random cards sometimes but I only write long, handwritten letters now if I want to ensure that the contents are noted.

That's much safer than doing it on e-mail.

I send cards and things to a friend who lives in London and she does with me, just when we see something we think the other would like. And I'll drop handwritten cards or notes in to the neighbours if there's going to be noise from building work. It's been a while since I wrote a full-on letter though.

When my Mum passed away I found a box of letters she had kept over the years from my brothers and I, friends and indeed lovers (I know where I get it from!).

It was the most amazing thing and from that point forward I started to write letters again. I have my own little keepsake box of those I receive and one day it will be a special gift for my son I'm sure, though I might censor a few unlike my Mum! Little minx!

Posted this morning, a letter to one of my best friends who lives 300 miles away. We email and message on Facebook regularly, but a letter is different. It's for keeps; it says you care.
