Stressed out cat.

We moved last week, put our cats in the battery and picked them up yesterday.
One of them is fine, the other one is badly stressed. Crying all night and pacing, still at it now......any suggestions? |

Weirdly I was just thinking about you! 
Hope the move went well. As for your kitty... I think I'd try and make one room separate for them. Put in some familiar things, something that smells of you and let them get used to their new home.
I'm guessing you're going to be busy unpacking but take an hour out to sit with them. They're smart creatures and they've been upheaved (is that even a word?).
You can buy a plug with stuff that makes them feel safe. I want to say fermions but I don't know if that's the right word but I'll go google and check. It makes them feel safe apparently. |

I just wondered about it being a territorial thing, animals when taken from their familiar surroundings and territory behave like this. Hope the little chap is ok soon. |

Would you say your boy is normally the 'top cat' out of the two? It's quite usual for this behaviour whilst they still feel the house 'isn't theres'.
Were there cats there before or maybe even a dog...this does heighten the levels of anxiety.
Agree with DG...a room set aside, full of familiar things and scents. I also put food in the room when I had the same problem. Spend periods of time with them in the room and when you have quiet times in the rest of the house (not easy when you're still unpacking), leave the door to 'their room' open and let the explore.
It's often just a case of giving it some time.

I think it will be fine in time, but keep it indoors. When we came to the UK we flew with our cats and they had to go through customs (or whatever) including animal holding which meant being in the aircraft hold for hours. When we arrived, despite the fact they had all gravelled in their separate boxes, we thought we had lost two of them as they had all crept into the one box and snuggled up together. We have moved twice since then and they are settled (we have been in our current place for five years. I sort of dread to move again because they are so settled - but eventually they feel safe again ... |

The move was ok but as soon as we turned the water on we had a flood
We just went to buy some plug in fermions  but they are out of stock until tomorrow.

The vet charged me £80-00 and 12 per month for medicine because my cat is stressed

Pets are more in tune with what we are up to than we sometimes give them credit for, the little guy may well have picked up on the changes before with the 'stress' of the move ..
once you've both settled down then he should start to also..
was there a lady friend he may be pining for..?

Bless him, it's coming at him from all angles isn't it! Like others I can highly recommend Feliway, works wonders. Be sure to have it somewhere where the cat walks past though, it needs to be free flowing. So not behind a sofa or a doorway if possible. x |

We had a stray cat that moved in and he was stressed cos of the other cats we had but he will sleep next to them and be about when they are about, ended up getting some dry food that relaxes him you could try that |

No, not a good one and both of us are tired, there's so much to do here, the cleaning alone is a mammoth task before we even start on upgrading. So we are less than fresh today

I put small amounts of butter on my cats paws when I moved so as he walked around he was stopping to lick a tasty treat but leaving his scent around too it really helped settle him
Lots of treats n cuddles are best after a cattery stay only did it once tbh n never again coz my baby came home very distressed but lots of attention soon reassure him |

This is good advice. Your cat maybe overwhelmed getting used to all the new rooms and may be better getting used to one room first with familiar things in it then venturing out to explore when he is ready. |

My rescue cat has a long term issue with distress and when he's really bad 2/3 times a year he literally sits there and pulls his fur out. We have feliway but he's also on antidepressants bless him. I despair how to help him more but the vet has tried everything. Considering cat psychologist if that's not too woo woo  |
