I'm not sure this is the correct word, but I couldn't think of an alternative.
No offence to anyone here it's just a topic Iv been thinking about for a while.
I find Black men quite intimidating, now as Iv already said "intimidating" could be the wrong word as I'm not "scared" of them as such.

I find that people don't intimidate me anymore. When I was younger, people in certain positions, teachers and bosses etc, I would let them intimidate me, simply because of their job. Then I came to my senses as I got older and realised that we're essentially all the same. I was going along thinking these people were better than me, when in fact they're not. I don't allow anyone to intimidate or 'get to me' now. |

Same here. I used to be physically sick before important meetings and presentations.
Part of my difficulty was a self imposed sense of self worth.
These meetings were always with well respected, highly educated and qualified groups of people. Whereas I'm just an oik.
It took me a while to get my head around the fact that I wouldn't have been in my job or in that room if I didn't have skills that these guys didn't have.
I'm much more comfortable in my own skin now.
But I had to go through being very ill to realise it. |

Maybe one of the reasons is that Caribbean and African cultures are quite patriarchal so the man is more expected to be assertive?

Obviously if ur intimidated before speaking with someone, the issue is within. We are programmed from a early age to have preconceptions of our environment to either find a mate or keep us safe, etc... I think it's a truth that we all get swayed by stereotype's from time to time. We can all let stereotype's effect our judgement when we don't necessarily have any firsthand knowledge to draw on. We may even be aware how irrational it is to have these thoughts. We go on what we've been taught growing up or maybe things we've seen. We can't necessarily help that.
Often when you come face to face with that thing or look at it in detail, it turns out we are wrong. This doesn't just happen with race but with gender, age, sexuality and all kinds of things. I don't think the OP's making a stupid comment at all. It's a refreshingly honest statement. We can ALL be prejudice or ignorant from time to time however freethinking and enlightened we may think we are. |

I think I understand what you are saying OP. But think intimidate is the wrong word. I have found that black guys and some Asian guys tend to question my personal preference, as my profile states I prefer white guys. I do not feel intimidated by their questioning, but sometimes do feel a bit peeved that I may need to explain why they are not my first choice. |

I think it's a truth that we all get swayed by stereotype's from time to time. We can all let stereotype's effect our judgement when we don't necessarily have any firsthand knowledge to draw on. We may even be aware how irrational it is to have these thoughts. We go on what we've been taught growing up or maybe things we've seen. We can't necessarily help that.
Often when you come face to face with that thing or look at it in detail, it turns out we are wrong. This doesn't just happen with race but with gender, age, sexuality and all kinds of things. I don't think the OP's making a stupid comment at all. It's a refreshingly honest statement. We can ALL be prejudice or ignorant from time to time however freethinking and enlightened we may think we are."

I would not say I was intimidated by anyone because of my belief that anyone who tries to intimidate is feeling less that inside coupled with the knowledge that anyone can be who they want to be. There are plenty of white men and couples who try to intimidate, but I have never found that from a black man. Studies have shown that across the races/countries cock size doesn't really vary- although on average African men were on average the largest it wasn't by a great margin. It's perfectly acceptable to ask for advice on something you're not sure about and even when it's a tricky topic and difficult to word, it doesn't make it stupid. It's the intimidation that's the key, not the person, the race, the colour, the weight or the height or whatever else in it's inside the person who's intimidated.
Sometimes people are intimidating. I worked beside I guy and he was in a higher position than me professionally and he quite simply intimidated the life out of me. He had an air about him and it made me feel like an idiot most of the time. Then one afternoon I watched him come back from a very long lunch, proceeded to get in his car and drive home. All of those feelings of intimidation vanished just like that. I never again felt intimidated by him. I found out later that he was sober so my assumption that he was over the limit to drive was unfounded, however I'm glad I made that assumption because it dispelled all of MY issues of intimidation.

The OP expressed an honest opinion. She wasn't being rude, she was just explaining how she feels, honestly. While that opinion did show a particular reaction to one race, she wasn't saying that her reaction was right or even that it made her think of that race in a negative light.
Everyone has implicit biases...being able to recognize those biases are what allow us to move on from them. I don't think she was necessarily defending it.

I totally agree with this as it has been my experience too. Many white guys on here have tried to convince me that I need a white cock, rather than a black one because they know what I need more than I do. I think it's a truth that we all get swayed by stereotype's from time to time. We can all let stereotype's effect our judgement when we don't necessarily have any firsthand knowledge to draw on. We may even be aware how irrational it is to have these thoughts. We go on what we've been taught growing up or maybe things we've seen. We can't necessarily help that.
Often when you come face to face with that thing or look at it in detail, it turns out we are wrong. This doesn't just happen with race but with gender, age, sexuality and all kinds of things. I don't think the OP's making a stupid comment at all. It's a refreshingly honest statement.
