Would they be for you?
Hypothetically speaking for those.... if you hadn't already been married and actually wanted to get married.
Vanessa Feltz has been engaged for 9 years.
I personally would t want a long Engagment. |

No. We got engaged in June and married in January a few years ago. We would have married sooner but he was already married to someone else so had to deal with the legal part of that first. As soon as that was sorted we got married ..... as soon as it was legally possible |

I find the whole engagement thing is bollocks. You're either with someone and not married or you're with someone married. To be with someone for years and years saying you're engaged to be married is pointless. If you want to marry someone then just do it! What's the point in dragging it out?! |

Yes, totally understand that. But why do you have to do the whole engagement thing at all then? You're with the person anyway. You obviously want to be together. Why have this engagement thing if you have no plans to get married. Why even bring it up? You may as well have just stayed as you were. |

There's no religious or historic requirement for long engagement, if you're in C of E having banns read this needs three Sundays.
1.5 to 2 years ish seems to be the norm now going by my friends. I was engaged for 6 months, but we didn't have to save for a huge wedding so it seemed pointless having a long engagement. |

Yeh there's religious and historical requirements, you're ignoring Judaism and our own medieval period. |

Personally we do what we want to do. We dont care about what others want or what others do nor do we care about religious rites or society rites or anything else |

Happy to be educated further but I understand the traditional Jewish engagement was to be a maximum of a year. Not a long engagement by today's standards. |

We were engaged within 3 months of meeting and we're engaged for 13 years before we got round to getting married.....and we only did then as it makes things easier with kids. Being married has made no difference to our everyday life though....although i do have a much nicer surname now |

Haha that doesn't read exactly as it should, to confirm I mean when introducing or explaining to someone else, I'll cheat and use the term wife regardless not married,
Girlfriend sounds short term and common law wife is too long, wife is much easier

Because we wanted to and still intend to egt married. Its symbolic. We might as well do what we want and not do something because someone else deems it pointless |

Was engaged after 12 weeks was married ,51 weeks after we met. Been engaged another couple of times but wouldn't of married them anyway.
Now weve been together nearly 10 years, and no engagement and none planned either.

"I'm not the marrying kind.
I could be under the right circumstance. I'm just not a long dragged out engagement kind of guy."
I should probably rephrase... I have no objection to the marriage part... it's the wedding part that I wouldn't want. If I were ever to do it, I'd fuck off and do it in secret then come back and tell everyone I'd done it. |

That's what we did. ..although we did say we were going to....i didn't want to try to sort out the tangle of relatives and deciding who we were going to upset by not inviting them because we couldn't afford to invite everyone. .. |
