Just read an article in the Independent about some guy who spent 20 years searching for the ultra rare moustached kingfisher bird, tweeted "You are looking at the first-ever photos of a male moustached kingfisher!", and then promptly killed it... dubbing it "collected as a specimen for additional study"

Believe it or not, his defence, despite having searched in vain for it for 20 years, was that it wasn't really all that rare

As someone remarked in the comments "Another university educated man lacking a modicum of commonsense.This is indeed a rare bird with limited numbers left on earth; hmm, so let’s ring its neck". Proof that some "clever" people can be bleedin idiots
