I don't mind talking about anything, I like it when people are passionate.

At work, it's different though. Subjects that aren't related to my role directly bore me. For example, when I have to attend meetings/conferences/webinars that don't touch on sales, implementation or product development. They're a complete waste of my time.

Sorry but I love my sci-fi, some sport, can't figure out baseball but love American Football.

Have a guy at work who is incredibly anally retentive about the weather. Directions as well. The amount of time he spends talking about his route to work. Anything that saves him 5 mins (or a few quid) is all that's left in the world that still gets him excited. I pity his wife. Hoping to find her on here one day, lol.

That makes sense as it's akin to teachers; I did well in maths classes where the teacher was brilliant but absolutely dire where they were awful and seemed to forget that it's not easy for some of us. Health and safety teachers too

Oh I agree, but those who live their life through a tv screen I find irksome...especially when they start thinking they are experts because they watch a lot. Football fans and ufc fans are amongst the worst for it...get on the pitch/cage and do it, then you can talk about it...

Bragging and posturing about money and possessions bores me to tears. My ex's extended family included a few wealthy members who would congregate at weddings and funerals and spend hours showing off to anyone unlucky enough to be within grabbing distance. It was tedious.

It's not long now until the next Big Brother.

I've no interest in celebrities, most reality TV either, cars, shopping, kids, trending crap of the day, other halves, cookery shows, most sport and tons of other grey topics that seem to obsess many.

Politics, science, technology and history are reasonable bets with a massive scope and appeal. I'll discuss religion with some people but not for me to learn and be converted.

For me It's the person I find boring not the subject.....usually anyway.

I admire people who can make 'boring' topics interesting just by how passionate and knowledgeable they are about it....there are obviously exceptions but that's subjective to the individual.

The two types of bores I dislike the most are the boasters that have to let you know the cost of all their expensive shite n try to lord it over those with less money/smaller car/house....the kind of folk who see everything as a competition and are self righteously condescending at every opportunity

The other type of bore is the whinger/moaner....always banging on about being owed money/their wife spending all their money/how much they hate their job blah blah blah add infinitum.....most of them(maybe not all) you soon learn don't want solutions or helpful advice...they just want to drone on n have folks feeling sorry for them.

Everyone can be entitled to a wee moan but when all they spout is negativity non stop I just want to slap em upside the head!

There's still a few generic spraffs that bore me no matter how enthusiastic n Knowledgeable the spraffer is......Football n any technical subjects n terms I know nothing about....my eyes glaze over if I haven't already walked off!

But that's just my opinion.....Yawwwwn

For those south of the border(most of you!) spraff=talk

Why has that bake off thing got into the national news! I know some fans are on fab but I get the feeling there are several dozen cooking shows a week now. I'm not interested. There are a few more hundred shows covering buying houses abroad or as income streams. I find it appalling whilst millions are living in overpriced rental properties - where are their shows?

I don't watch soaps, cookery or house porn. Shouldn't there be more shows about sex!

If however they went out and played and could relate to something first hand....they might get more than a cursory nod

I hardly talk about my hobby at work cos no-one is interested. But I am subjected to every detail of every man Utd game! It's when people say "we played well.. We did this.. We did that.." Erm did you actually play or just watch sat on your couch?!

Exactly!!! WE didn't do anything, did you run around a pitch for 90 mins, spraining an ankle, breaking a hair band or fall over your own feet, no you didn't, you say in your recliner chair drinking Stella yelling at the tv you could do better!!!

Having said that footballers are over played idiots!! Sorry I needed to vent

Only the elite at the very top of the game - a tiny minority of football players! The majority in the lower leagues earn no more than the average person on here I would wager! "

I see you didn't comment on the fact that you just sit there not actually playing the game!

That be said I do sit there and watch doctor who and moan to myself or out loud that Moffat is a crap writer and I could do better, sooooooo

So you don't have a view on the quality of a film? Or of a pop band?

Are you saying the only people who are allowed to have a view are those that are in the industry? But to what level?

Eg I played for a Sunday League team - is that good enough?

Or semi pro? Or maybe a League 2 player? Are they justified in offering a critique of a Premier League player if they've not played at that level?

I wouldn't mind hearing someone say how they scored a goal in their own 5 a side match or something. But discussing a great goal from a match they watched on to in 1976 in great detail is too much!!

My hobby has transfers and performances that I find exciting. But I can't talk about it at work unless I am deliberately getting my own back and trying to bore them and that's something I personally do and am passionate about.

I think anything has the potential to become boring if you are on the receiving end of a monologue. I give great ones, where I detail my plans for world domination to a captive audience as they are lowered into a vat of acid. It's just a shame the door bell then rings and my audience leaves via the window

A conversation about any other subject that may bore me like politics, football or religion, i feel well within my rights to curtail due to the potential for conflict.
