I am going to a young lady's house for dinner tonight and want to take some flowers. But do different flowers have different meanings as the girls in the office were saying or are they just winding me up  |

They do in a way.
Roses are more romantic than a mixed bunch, for instance.
I like seasonal flowers. And you can't go wrong with those

Some do... lots of people associate lillies with death/funerals but I love them. However, lillies are poisoness to cats so if she has a cat, avoid all the lillies.
Roses can be too full on but never take carnations. I'd stick with an orchid or alstroemerias (but only if there's no cat!)
Keep it simple. Listen to the girls in your office. |

I've never had flowers bought for me. Am I missing out?
I think buying a gift that dies is a bit odd. Like buying a puppy and then killing it 5 days later. |

Does that actually work? I keep some in my car just in case! 
My cat is much better in the house. Although she appears not to eat the giant ones, just plays with them till they're dead and leaves them for me to find.  |

It's nice to be nice so I'd make sure that you're really clear with her from the outset that you're not looking for any sort of relationship with her. New friends are great but my guess is that she's chatting to her girlfriends about the hot bloke she met in the park coming over for dinner! |

I was always told that as long as they don't look like they're from next doors garden or a last minute grab from the petrol station, you should be OK. I find Oriental lilies do the trick, not the funeral ones. |

i think they are bad for a lot of domestic animals vut deadly to cats.

Yeah but gifts are expressions of something from you to others. Choose flowers that resonate something about you and them or the occasion.
Try not to buy at a filling station as those flowers are not usually much more attractive than spilled diesel. |

Well after all my worrying about last nights dinner. I must say what a top night I had great laugh got extremely d*unk and didn't get in till six this morning.
I brought up my worries after a couple of drinks about her fancying me and it was meet with a loud laugh we had a little chat and that was that.

The last time I made a lovely arrangement for someone for Christmas just to thank her for getting me through that year ,with two bottles of wine in the arrangement and all the flowers you could possible bring a lady so much joy .but every flower as a meaning and rose colours and how you bring them together have diffrent meanings to .I myself love all flowes and I delight in arranging them and see that wonder smile on any ladies face
