So chatting to someone (not on here) they always call me hun, and I hate it! Hunny is cool and I love being called sweetie and sexy too. but it got me thinking, what do people call you like that in conversation and is there any names you love or hate?

Personally I don't mind any term of endearment. At the end of the day, it reflects the personality of the other person and isn't trying to be insulting to you when they say it.

It's not like they know your preferences initially and it's not really a typical fact finding question (excuse me, is it ok that I call you Hun or honey?).

So my opinion is just embrace it, don't get annoyed or insulted and if they do press the right button and get your preferred term right, then it's a great start instead of a good one.

Mind you, once you get to know someone, it's probably easier to say to them you don't like the term.

Or maybe a "Hey hun (ahem), would you call me honey instead? I'd rather sound like something sweet as oppose to a nomadic tribal warrior

Just where I need to be.

Hun I don't like and always ask the person not to call me it. Weekend I was called chicken by a friend which was quite apt as I was wearing feathered wings.

I call everyone lovely... I don't mind some cause they always seem to come from a good place. Babe gets on my wick... I suspect cause I've never viewed myself as a babe.

I like toots and one of my fav people calls me doll.

Welcome to 2015

Where you hold a door open for someone and they say thank you and then receive abuse for replying you're welcome love.

I don't like generic terms of endearment. Marc and I have our own terms for one another that are quite personal and wouldn't make any sense to people who don't know us. Those are my favorite kinds.

I some times have referrred to a woman as love...only because I use it in really life...when I know someone...female....and it is used by me as a friendly gesture...nothing to do with being dominant. .or a put down on women. Some like..some have said it's over familiar....so I probably don't use it now.

Nothing really bothers me, there is one thing i don't like being called and if someone says it I politely tell them I don't like it, if they say it again I just blank them completely and don't answer.

I used to use hun, until I saw posts saying they hated it, now I tend to use lovely for ladies that I know, usually because they are!

It was more a generic example, a bloke posted on here a while back. Something on the lines of taking a delivery and saying " be careful love, it's a bit of a mess in here at the moment"

The female who was delivering then proceeded to hurl abuse at the guy, for calling her love.

"Love and dear. Hate them."

'Luv' is a Northern expression, very widely used (men to women and women to men)

As is 'chuck' and 'cock' or 'cocker'
