It is something that when you see it in real life blows you away, when you observe them on TV it diminishes the spectacle that they are. The first time that I saw them blew my mind. I am pleased that you have enjoyed them. |

"I'm standing down at the beach with my camera and my tripod watching the Northern Lights!
It's epic and the first time I've properly seen it! Hurrah!!
Thanks to my bro for sending me out! "
Can you see it clearly without your camera?
I live right next to the beach......I'm gonna go out n see if I can see it right now! |

Haha! I'm hopping round cause it's baltic and I literally threw on a pair of jeans and a jumper and dived out the house... I'm freezing my tits off!
Long exposure Courtney... time to faff in between shots.
I'm not even tempted to flash at the doggers!! |

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else |
"Two questions...
1- can I see them in Leeds?
2- Why the hell are you on fab then?
-Courtney"
It's theoretically possible, I think, but requires the right atmospheric conditions.
...also for question 1!

I took a look for a few minutes as it's clear skies here and decided I'd need long exposure to the night sky to be in with much of a chance. But tonight's not the night for being much later as I've got a very early start. And the aurora borealis wouldn't be guaranteed but a sleepy me would be.
There's some light pollution here but assume some snatch could be possible (a bit like the single guys hope too). |

Agh jealous! Love stargazing etc but too far south and too much light pollution to see any Northern Lights. Definite bucket list thing!
I was in Dartmoor recently and spent literally hours just looking up enjoying the Milky Way - you can't see it from where I live |

My friend in Dundee sent me some amazing pics last year - after seeing them I can't understand why people go abroad to see them! |

Too much light pollution here
Northern Lights aside, I really do fancy a trip to the frozen north.
Northern Norway or Iceland away from the main tourist trail, but need to save up cos it ain't cheap ... |

I really should learn how to take photos of the stars! I have a book! Must read it.
It was properly awesome to see... I took a 3 minute exposure and it almost looks like daylight with a beautiful green stripe across the sky. There's chat about it being visible again tonight if it's clear. Might be worth a look. You can sort of see it with the naked eye but it's much clearer in a photo.
Happy to have seen it though. |

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire) |
We get it quite often up here in Aberdeenshire. Luckily not too many street lights to pollute the skies at night.
Last winter was fantastic, hoping for another good year this time. I got some amazing pictures on my mobile - its beautiful, and I feel so lucky to live up here (even though I occasionally curse the lack of amenities and small village life) |

You need a tripod and a long exposure setting, and then set it off on a timer so you don;t move the camera.
Coool!!! |

Yeah... I had all that shit with me!
Except I had the wrong feckin lens and smart arse didn't take my camera bag with me.
I'll look at the results when I get home tonight and see what they came out like. |

I keep meaning to get my arse to Reykjavik for a week to maximise my chances of really indulging but it hasn't yet worked out.
Very envious of those that get to see it regularly! |
