"Is it only a matter of time before one succeeds though?
Worrying times "
Yep, those are the ones that have been stopped. Who's to say that they've already succeeded in other attempts that were not intercepted? I fear for our children I really do |

"It's on sky news at the mo. FBI and security forces foiled a plot to sell nuclear materials by moldovans I think "
The Moldovans and FBI stopped smugglers selling nuclear materials (not nukes) to IS.

I think this is a non story, part of the new cold war between the USA and Russia.
The photo of the cash seized was certainly not 2.5 million Euro's the claimed price, and the radioactive material seized was not the material supposedly sold. When there are holes in the story it's often propaganda.
So don't worry yet! |

It is a nuclear plot and I was asked what it was about and had only heard half what was said, so pointed to sky news and said I THINK.
I also said nuclear materials, what do you think they were planning to do with it? Permanent ing? |

It does worry me a little just based around where geographically these sales are originating and the fact that they can't seem to pin down the gang leaders.
Add to this the fact that NATO does know how much radioactive material, nuclear or otherwise Russia has lost over the years and Russia won't tell us over relations cooling, it could be worrying. |

"Since when did Moldova have a nuclear arsenal?
It's primary exports are bad wine and hookers. It's the poorest country in Europe, I think... "
We don't know it was Moldovans, that was my point, the BBC article doesn't say who the culprits were - for all we know they could be Russian.

The belief is that it's Russian or Ukraine dissidents who want harm to come to the Americans, they have the items but not the ability or the sophistication to carry out the attacks. The fact that they're using Moldova is because is massively impoverished and doesn't have huge resources to combat organised crime on this level. Hence the concern, one police officer has foiled four trades, theres not a lot of them! |

Exactly that, wouldnt do widespread damage but enough to irradiate a small area, scary still |

No it isn't.
It's a question of proportion.
Terrorists have killed as many UK citizens in the last decade as...
.
.
Bee stings
.
.
I don't see the government spending billions on security apparatus to protect us from the menace of bees.
There is risk, and then there is the perception of risk.
The two are very different.

You don't see the perception of terror as a serious issue? The 9-11 bombings only killed a few thousand, against the general population of the us, or even new york that's tiny... Where do you draw the line as to which citizens you save? |

"Where do you draw the line as to which citizens you save?"
Somewhere above removing all civil liberties and below open invitation.
Not an easy line to draw, but the product in this news story would possibly irradiate a building IF you exploded it with sufficient force in the building which would probably demolish the building... set off a bomb in the radiology department of any major hospital and it would be more of a dirty bomb than this supposed threat is. |

The story was from "an investigation" by the AP, describes the sellers as having "Russian links" and, although it happened over the period of five years, surfaces now, as Russia begins bombing in Syria. Classic propaganda job.
Not to say that they're aren't links between criminals and terrorists. The Muslim gang behind the Madrid train station bombing bought their explosives from non-muslim Spanish criminals. Some people will do anything for money.

""A people who trade liberty for security deserve neither."

(very clever man)"
Very true and I agree wholeheartedly, however a quote won't protect us in the event of an attack.
I'm not trying to scaremonger but its a big bad world out there and an awful lot of people wish us ill simply because of the liberties that we enjoy |
