Extraversion[edit]

Extraversion is "the act, state, or habit of being predominantly concerned with obtaining gratification from what is outside the self".[4] Extraverts tend to enjoy human interactions and to be enthusiastic, talkative, assertive, and gregarious. Extraverts are energized and thrive off of being around other people. They take pleasure in activities that involve large social gatherings, such as parties, community activities, public demonstrations, and business or political groups. They also tend to work well in groups.[5] An extraverted person is likely to enjoy time spent with people and find less reward in time spent alone. They tend to be energized when around other people, and they are more prone to boredom when they are by themselves.

Introversion[edit]

Introversion is "the state of or tendency toward being wholly or predominantly concerned with and interested in one's own mental life".[4] Introverts are typically more reserved or reflective.[5] Some popular psychologists have characterized introverts as people whose energy tends to expand through reflection and dwindle during interaction.[6] This is similar to Jung's _iew, although he focused on mental energy rather than physical energy. Few modern conceptions make this distinction.

Introverts often take pleasure in solitary activities such as reading, writing, using computers, hiking and fishing. The archetypal artist, writer, sculptor, engineer, composer and inventor are all highly introverted. An introvert is likely to enjoy time spent alone and find less reward in time spent with large groups of people, though he or she may enjoy interactions with close friends. Trust is usually an issue of significance: a virtue of utmost importance to introverts is choosing a worthy companion. They prefer to concentrate on a single activity at a time and like to observe situations before they participate, especially observed in developing children and adolescents.[7] They are more analytical before speaking.[8] Introverts are easily overwhelmed by too much stimulation from social gatherings and engagement, introversion having even been defined by some in terms of a preference for a quiet, more minimally stimulating external environment.[9]

Mistaking introversion for shyness is a common error. Introverts prefer solitary to social activities, but do not necessarily fear social encounters like shy people do.[10]

contrary to popular belief i am an introvert.. which are you? and does it affect you, from your perspective, here on fab or with meets? and how?

apparently there is now an ambivert

Ambiversion[edit]

Although many people _iew being introverted or extraverted as a question with only two possible answers, most contemporary trait theories measure levels of extraversion-introversion as part of a single, continuous dimension of personality, with some scores near one end, and others near the half-way mark,[13] see the Big Five personality traits. Ambiversion is falling more or less directly in the middle.[4][14] An ambivert is moderately comfortable with groups and social interaction, but also relishes time alone, away from a crowd.

"I'm an introvert.

It's tricky because I suspect I'm an extrovert in my every day working life but introverted in my personal life. A bit like I'm dominant outside the bedroom yet submissive behind closed doors.

I'm contradictory in many areas of my life. I've just got used to being a bit complicated. I'm not sure it really has an effect here because I rarely meet anyone. Certainly not at the moment, I'm just loitering with intent till I find my mojo.

I'm a definite introvert. The only way it affects my life is that if I spend too much time around too many people it stresses me out and exhausts me. And people often think I'm stuck up because I don't want to be right in the middle of everything. I don't know if it's part of being an introvert but I can come across a bit cold or closed off, people have said I'm hard to read and give off indifference, which hasn't gone down too well on a couple of social meets before

I rarely take much from psychology these days, its often been used to quantify people too easily into certain groups or predictability.

if you start talking about well adjusted self realized people(maslow), you can start talking about the social elite..but many(over the years now) have proven they have not self actualised and are really not that much different from those at lets say the bottom of the ladder...and in some cases...much,much worse.

so yes, I feel introverted and extroverted or ambiverted...but would I really hold myself to a label like that as a free thinking sentient being?...nope.

I've now seen ambivert & relate better to that. In big groups I like to be with people I know well, close friends or family. I don't like big groups of strangers (so socials are a huge deal for me!).

Obviously at home I rule the roost (or try too!) & I feel fairly confident at work now. In the bedroom I have no idea!!! I'm getting more adventurous but lack confidence

Ha,same here!

An introvert most of the time, find I do better in 1 on 1 meets or small social gatherings.

How does it affect my time on here? I know I'd have much more success on here if I put myself out there more by attending socials n stuff but I'm not the most sociable of guys........

However if I have a couple of drinks(not falling about d*unk, just enough to socially lubricate!) that can turn me into the life n soul.....in the right company of course but not always.

Often thought I might be bi-polar!
