The way I see it is wwe either have a constitutional monarchy or we don't. We can't bypass a rightful heir because he says some things that are a bit eccentric - he won't be the first nutter to sit on the the throne of England, and probably not the last either.

The article suggested that the majority of UK citizens wished William would succeed his grandmother but in all realisation, Charles will become king but he won't reign for as long as his mother has due to the age he is now. She still looks like she's going strong and if she has her mother's longevity she still has another decade or two to go, which means Charles won't become king until he's in his 80s - if he makes it that far. The public may well get their wish, but there is a distince possibility that it will be with no interference from the state and simply because of the passage of time.
