Which version of the HTC? The newer ones are running Android, although a few are running Win7 Mobile, which isn't compatible with 6.5 or backwards.

iPhone is nice from user point of view, but pain in the bum to develop for.

As ElLongo says, it's all about which HTC phone you've got.

Most threads I've seen are praising the HTC Desire which runs Android (Google's mobile phone operating system). It's the combination of a brilliant operating system and good hardware.

iPhones and Android phones are the only ones to get. Any mobile phone running Windows is kinda like the ginger stepchild of the mobile phone world.

to develop for iphone you must use a MAC, and all apps have to be approved by Apple

However for Android anyone with the SDK can develop an app and put it on the Android market

it is is the HTC you are after.... like people have said.... get the ones that operate with the Android system rather than Windows.....

that being said..... I didn't think I could love an Iphone more that the 3gs... but my Iphone 4 is superb!!!!

I hate all this app type phones I liked my old (ok very old lol) Nokia 3310 I knew how to use it and could call and text.

Im old I dont need to use a camera (I have a digital one) or video - I had to get my 7 year old to show me how to use my new phone!!!!

I have the HTC Desire (I think I may be wrong tho) and got it when my contract came up for renewal, I cant use half the things on it, in fact the internet (which it in the contract) was only set up 10 mins ago by my hubby.

Now he has the same phone and loves it, so I have come to the conclusion that I'm a technophobe

Oldest kid had a Nokia e63 and asked me to txt her mate on it with the keyboard what a palaver, all this tiny keys and hitting the wrong letter - it took less time on my old Sony Ericsson with hitting the number key 10 times for each letter

Sadly, you're right it's a Windows phone not an Android one.

It could be worse. My work phone is an old Nokia thing. State of the ark... it can make calls, but the ringtones are the old midi ones - y'know chirp chirp chirp kinda thing, not MP3s of Dizzy Rascal or whatever is "down wiv da kids" these days. I'm pretty sure it's the same phone that Del Boy was flogging in Only Fools & Horses, the one that changed the channel on the telly in the Nag's Head whenever he dialled a number

I think you're right. Some people are like that. I have a friend who has taken her sim card from her work phone and put it in an iPhone she bought. The stupid thing about it is that her work sim is really restricted so she can't connect online or anything like that with her iphone, which kinda negates the whole point of having an iphone. She just like wandering around the building with her iphone in her hand, as if it's some kind of status symbol... even though 16 year old chavs have iphones these days too.

The apps are what make an iphone (and Android phones) a smartphone. Personally I hate using smartphones as normal phones because they've got huge screens which end up looking manky once they've been held up to your ear for 10 minutes.

If you have an iPhone 4, be careful about the case you get. Some trap grit between it and the back which is glass and it has caused some back panels to shatter. (should have used gorilla glass)

Screen protector?

Couple of quid for a pack on Ebay depending on phone model, clear and self adhesive, peel off easily without leaving residue on teh screen,

I use them on my Galaxy S,

I had an iphone, I hated it.. took it back, got a htc running andriod and never ever looked back..

I have a year old andriod phone and minus the fact I do not have a front facing camera it does everything the new iphone 4 does...

I also dont have to pay as much if anything for apps.. I can run several things that my ipod touch can not do. I also only pay £30 a month and have 1200 mins, and unlimited texts and net. So cheaper than most iphone plans.

I wanted to like the iphone, I wanted to like the ipad... but both had other things that were just so much better and cheaper.

I'm a fan of HTC and always have been. I had a Diamond before I got my HD2 and that was brilliant. The HD2 is an amazing piece of kit let down by the shite WinMo operating system.

So I've hacked it to run Android (the Desire HD rom from xda-developers) and it's frickin awesome now. It's now the phone it should have been.

I'm really not a fan of the iphone. Too poncey. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastically engineered piece of kit, but I don't like it.

I have ran with HTC for a few years now, and for work they were briliant!

Last year, after running with the "Diamond Touch" and then moving on to HTC Hero or T-mobile G2 which incorporates personal AND business apps so smoothly its seemless!

"I phone" is a result of marketing/branding ...users have been brainwashed into thinking its their choice...but actually they have been massively duped!!

Can you bluetooth other (non apple) devices on your iPhone?

Can you replace the battery on your iPhone?

Can you change/increase the memory card size on your iPhone?

Can you watch flash media on your iPhone?

Jobs hates flash so won't have it on the iphone, to me it smacks of self indulgence and he is just denying his customers.

we need to worry more about living day to day then about material things.

sure these toys are very nice but we lived without them before.

and all technology has done is make our lives harder and more complicated because as soon as one of them goes wrong we panic.

and it is hard to resist the 'i must have it' society we sadly live in.

I have no real use for an overpriced phone that makes fart noises and will be upgraded 12months from now with technology that is already avialable now.

Mmmmmmmm?

Problem is most consumers don't use and don't care about Bluetooth.

Most consumers never need to and have no interest in replacing the battery.

Most consumers aren't interested in increasing the memory card size.

And Flash is such a bug ridden piece of junk that most people are better off without it anyway.

So their reasons may not be yours, but it's all about choice. Use the phone you're happy with and don't try to convert others to your cause. The iPhone / iTunes ecosystem is a highly convenient, consistent, and stable platform, but it doesn't mean you have to use it if you don't want to.

The problem I have with Apple devices is that they are proprietary and only run Apple software (which you can only buy from Apple, unsurprisingly).

I much prefer open source computing.

I have both an iphone and an ipad. Neither have made my life harder or more complicated, in fact the exact opposite.

I am no longer tied to my desk at work, as I can now have all emails delivered to my ipad or phone whilst out of the office.

I can work on the train for the whole of the three hour journey to London, without worrying if the battery on the ipad is going to pack in, and also without having to worry about a dodgy wifi connection.

And I can use the ipad unobtrusively in meetings, with the "Pages" and "Numbers" software giving me the equivalent of Microsoft Word and Excel.

I am definitely not one of the "i must have it" society, in fact it took four trips to PC World before i eventually bought the ipad, but you would now have to prise it from my grasp!

And there is a new one out in around April. With a camera and some sort of USB connection.

AND - most importantly - it is brilliant for browsing fab!

Knowing apple who redesign products every year so that apple nerds queue up to have the latest design, that is most likely right.
