As a teenager?

Were you the rebel who knew it all or the swotty one?

Playing sports or hanging around behind the bike sheds?

Popular crowd or in with the squares?

Streetwise or music lessons?

Bullied or the bully?

I'm curious...

I was one of the popular ones, but ironically was one of the geeks too. I was the first person in the history of our school to get colours for academic, sport and cultural. But I could also be a rebel too ! I remember taking most of the screws out of a wooden desk (people of a certain age will remember those desks!) and when the next person went to sit on it the whole desk collapsed !!

Was an ugly duckling at school so spent most of my teenage years playing sport. Was quite brainy but found school boring so passed all my exams without doing any work. Wouldn't say I was that popular only in the teams I played in. Was quite handy with a football until I injured my knee quite badly falling off a horse. Was always out playing as had an older brother so he had to keep an eye on me

when I was younger say 13 or 14 I was out of shape and a bit of an awkward kind of teenager to say the least also bit of a pest in school as I used to get into a bit of trouble...

16 onwards a lot different in the sense became withdrawn and kept to myself for a long time. nowadays at 23 still more or less keep to myself but do try to make an effort to speak with people plus I started training a bit exercise wise 16 on wards so dropped quite a bit of weight....also a lot less hyperactive and naughty like I used to be when I was younger now I more or less for the most part act older...

How I was as a teenager changed dramatically over those years. As a young teenager sport took up the majority of my time either training and competing or playing with mates. I was also quite conformist. By mid teens I added music and girls into the mix. Had a major falling out with my mates when 16 due to psychological bullying (scapegoating), reinvented myself with a new set of friends with spiritual and community pursuits. By the time I went to Uni I was more rounded as an individual but also moving into a more adventurous exploratory phase

I was your average joe teenager.

I wasn't in a crowd per sa, but was in with the people you wanted to be in with for different purposes.

I wasn't a bully. I got bullied a little bit on occasion, but nothing drastic.

I hated music lessons, I always Mitched on those lessons

Chams or Socials

I was a bit of all rounder. I went from living with my mum (stepdad posted abroad) to my dad. I played clarinet in the county orchestra & netball for school. I was far from clever but worked hard & got decent grades.

Then we turned 15, started drinking, smoking & going out in town. We'd often bump into my dad & Stepmum & tag along with them as they bought our drinks

I met the boys dad 3 months after I turned 16 & discovered sex

I was bullied and unpopular. I did my own thing though. I then left school at 16. Got married to a man I didn't love because I was pregnant and it seemed the right thing to do. I then spent the rest of my teens and most of my 20s trying to prove a point. To not be a stereotypical teen mum in any way. In some ways I still do this but now it's for no one's benefit but mine.

I was different in school to out of school. At school I worked hard and did well, was popular, played sports. Out of school I would disappear for days at a time following groups and would end up in random parts of the country/Europe.

I was probably almost in the popular crowd but not quite cheerleading standards. I hung out mostly with the people in the year above me. Smoked, drank, misbehaved and have always been a bit of a rebel.

I talked to everyone though, the geeks and the arty kids. Definitely not a swot, definitely not sporty, a big bit gobby and pushed my parents probably further than I should have, certainly further than they deserved.

I had a part-time job from 15 though, I think that probably helped. My brother and I pretty much hated each other.

I wasn't a rebel - as in, a naughty one who misbehaved, so guess I fell into the swotty camp? I never bunked off school or snuck out.

Some of my closest friends were called teacher's pet, and did extra lessons through choice. Some wore no-name trainers, had no interest in fashion or what was "in". Some couldn't afford to.

Some were the cool, popular ones, who at first, didn't understand why I hung out with the others. So I explained friendship to them. Those who "understood", were my friends. Those who didn't, weren't. I wasn't going to drop friends of nearly ten years due to superficial teenage bullcrap. Some were "rebels" and/or had problems at home who bunked off, and smoked behind the bike sheds or in the open, and were cheeky - not rude to teachers.

Didn't play sport - apart from in P.E. and games but played it properly and not half-arsed for fear of messing my hair up of getting sweaty

Wasn't bullied, and didn't tolerate bullying of others, so often stepped in. Parents told me to be nice to people but also not to let people walk all over me, and if someone was being mean, there was probably a reason, so I should try and be nice to them and not be horrible back . Also said I shouldn't care what other people think but should just do what's right. Made me unpopular with the not nice popular ones but I honestly didn't care, as I didn't want them as friends. I can think of one really horrible bullying incident where I came into the changing rooms late, and the other girls hid the towel of another after gym, and stood laughing at her overweight body, shivvering with cold. They always picked on her. I asked where they'd hid it and one told me and laughed. So I took the towel and gave it to it's owner. I was then verbally ganged up on, so I asked why they found watching a naked girl they didn't like was fun to them.

I'm been unpleasantly surprised to find out what the schoolaged home life of said girl was in recent years

Also, a few other people's schoolaged home lives - from all crowds. Makes you think really. Teenagers can be so mean. If only they knew what other pupil's home lives were like. Not always what they seemed.

Popular crowd and in with the squares.

Streetwise, and music lessons.

Baically, greedy as answered both to a few questions OP.

I was rather geeky, a quiet and studious child but I did have a sense of humour and enjoyed a bit of mischief on the quiet.

I went around with a small group of similar people and have always preferred smaller groups of good friends rather than a lot of friends.

I did play the odd trick on people though noone would have guessed it was me because I looked like butter wouldn't melt. I wasn't bullied thought one person tried, they didn't realise that I had a fiery temper and I am no pushover for anyone.

I was a naughty teenager, always getting in trouble

Was more interested in fingering girls than sport!

I love this thread!

People are fascinating. Thanks for sharing all your stories.

I was never bullied at school and I've never been witness to that either. I'm a gobby sort so I'm pretty sure I'd have spoken out which is probably why I never saw it.

I did have a couple of fights at school though... neither of which I started but I wasn't gonna sit back and get beaten up. I didn't consider that bullying though. I just stood up for myself. On both occasions it was over a boy.

My schooldays were not nice but I remember like it was yesterday walking out on my last day and thinking 'that will never happen again'..... and it hasn't.

I was artistic, individual and an easy target.

I went to Art School, flourished and enjoyed every minute... I became me.

but those early days, shaped me.......

I am thankful they happened. Not everyone who experiences similar, are as fortunate.

I had a veneer of well-behaved swot (which was mostly true) but this meant I got away with quite a lot of bad behaviour when I wanted to. I was clever enough to be able to sneak into clubs and sneak off with boyfriends and still get an A* at school the next day so tended to be forgiven quickly.

...Up on the Downs

I have a stunning passport pic from my late teens - eyes full of fire and rebellion. I might've been into sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll at an early age, but I had a fabulous relationship with one guy for most of that time. No-one ever loved me better, I reckon his love made me.

Music dominated my life but alcohol and drugs in my later teens could have destroyed it.....it didn't...I'm here and having a ball

Quiet, reserved, shy, bullied for being different, prefered animals to most people, abused, mistrusting, became a futurist at 14, wearing all black and studs, dyed black hair, eyeliner, went to gigs - Numan, Japan etc, quite a depressed and sad little character really. But there were some nice times.

I was such a swotty wuss. Very little confidence and shy.

University, working in bars, getting fit and getting away from my comfort zone sorted me out.
