Has anyone had any experience with them?
I got hit by an uninsured driver who was off his face yesterday evening.....my car is 15 years old and my insurer will write it off which I don't want as the book value is so low.
Any advice gratefully received |

" If the damage is minor consider the option to buy the car from the insurance company and make the repairs yourself.
"
This is what I did when someone damaged one of my classic minis. Because the damage was over 3 panels they wanted to write my car off. Wasn't happy I had, had the car nearly 15 years and it was my pride and joy |

Once a settlement is offered, make enquiries with regard to keeping the car with a cash balance settlement. This is quite normal but you need to ask at the time, in the meantime keep your car otherwise you'll clock up storage costs which can be expensive!
Good luck! |

E30 E36 or E46?
Unfortunately best way forward with damage of this magnitude will be with use of second hand parts. It will take time and will realistically only be viable if you can carry out repairs yourself or have a friend who is mechanically savvy!
Either way, if between the insurance cimoany and yourself agree for a payout and for you to keep the car, it will be categorised as a Category C write off based on "Beyond economical repair basis".

Its an E46, I'm quite good with mecahnics but I know even second hand parts can be hard to come by.
I had a look at the mib website and it doesn't talk about write offs so hope that could be the way forward.
It just says to get two quotes....guess its going to be a case of get the quotes, fill the forms out and see how it goes

The mib is just like a trade association - though I'm guessing you think you can refer a dispute to them?
Not sure you can- they get paid money by insurance companies - so you can prob work out which side of any dispute they sit |

They run the government scheme for compensation when hit by an uninsured driver, I just don't know if they follow similar process to your insurance, ie if the cost of repair is greater than the book value will the write the car off |

Write Offs are generally based on repair costs that exceed 2/3rds of the car value.
What is your car worth? |
