Exactly this.
Used to get it all the time "hey see you've viewed my profile! I'm available to meet now??"
ususlly followed by a forum thread "I don't understand people on here. They view your profile then don't want to meet!!! - time wasters. !"
Hence its switched off - keeps everyone a little bit happier.
