It's down to the shade of red I suppose. Kate is a redhead, but not as vivid a colour as some that you see.

Her friend is a redhead too, but much lighter and blondey, so perhaps she's a strawberry blonde?

It's notmally ginger people who classify themselves as strawberry blonde.

Red heads...well...hmm...once again could be ginger.

Haha,,,, as one who has happily been a ginger all my life ranging from a youthful eye waveringly full-on vibrant flame-red through to ageing and therefore dulling kinda washed-out rusty mop-top ….,,,I can say with absolute certainty,,,, having been called every name you can imagine to discribe my hair colour, that there is no difference at all,,,, unless your referring to cosmetic companies marketing of bottled hair colours.....

I have two friends that are sisters, one is a red head, really vibrant, the other is a strawberry blonde, (if you put against a blonde lady she looks red, if you put against a red head she is blonde, think that pretty much sums it up)

strawberry blondes are gingers who were teased at school.

Can't think why, I absolutely adore redheads with a passion.

When did 'strawberry blonde' come in to use, it was always 'ginger' when I was growing up. Something I have never understood, if when things are rare they are more precious, why arent 'ginger/redhead/strawberry blonde???? lol

Strawberry blonde does sound more poetic...

*mind wanders to a world full of beautiful redheads from all across the 'ginger spectrum'*

All I can think of when I read this thread is how sad it is that people think its ok to offend people just because of hair colour. A girl in our street had long curly ginger hair and she was always called names. I saw her years later and gaped in awe as she was wearing a black dress but her hair was amazing, the colour of flames, cascading down her back. God what I'd give to look like that. Its so eye catching and different, all us blondes and brunettes are just ten a penny. Redheads be proud

Here's a very clever sketch by Catherine Tate about the very subject. Funny and gets an important message across as well:

When I was a young kid ,,I’d get the usual ginger-nut etc taunts to the point it would now be probably considered a form of verbal bullying …As child with a child’s outlook I’d sometimes feel as though I’d been dealt an unfair hand being born with a physical feature that stood me out from the crowd which allowed others (particularly other boys) to focus upon it in a manner that suggested I should somehow feel ashamed or as a lesser person because of my bright red locks……

My Gran…. Who was a wiley old sort used to say ….. “dinna you worry bonny lad….. ye’ll have the last laff on them”…. for once you start to get older…. you’ll probably find your hair turns grey”…. Which as a kid, was something I failed to see any value in…however as the years have past,,,, I now get it,,, as most of the guys who taunted me are now sporting nothing more than a shine…..

Not that I’’m suggesting for one moment that being bald is somehow anything to feel inadequate for…….…. …. Nope…. Far from it infact,,, indeed if I’d had the bottle there are many times I’d would have liked to have shaved my head…..”I genuinely think bald is a pretty awesome look on a guy or a girl”

I guess being bullied as a kid about the colour of my hair maybe helped me develop a compassionate streak which overtime has served me well in both my career and in general life ,,,, however, it’s an ongoing tragic shame that some kids who are bullied about predominate physical features don’t manage to cope so well…. So I if calling ginger, strawberry blonde or redhead is seen by some as somehow more socially acceptable and less prone to the effects of teasing all well and good,,,,,.

However, I can only hope all kids who have any form of physical distinctions can find the strength of character to draw a positive attitude from it, rather than feel alienated or somewhat segregated.

Though they don't seem rare in Scotland, it's full of them, hence the tartan hated "Jimmy" wigs.

There seems to be a type of red headed hierarchy in as much as some are more popular than others.

There's the auburn Amy Nuttall type, especially if they have a light tan and brown eyes, mmmmmm.

Then there's the frizzy orange type, snow white tan (bright pink in summer) and freckles etc, probably more inclined to be a "Strawberry Blonde".

Keith Lemmon from Celebrity Juice has a bee in his bonnet about it,lol.

I am naturally strawberry blonde. No, not red and not ginger either. To look at it you'd just see the blonde until you get close enough to see the mix of colours in there.

Mine threw a fit when I first did mine (I did it myself) however she now admits that it suits me. Despite me being really quite fair, as long as I keep a warm hue I can get away with darker colours.

The Red head /Strawberry blonde thing is a tough one as I have one sister who's a proper "copper knob" and one who is a Strawberry blonde and my sister who is Strawberry blonde had more success with men than the Redhead.

This drove the Redhead nuts so she went Goth and tried to dye her hair black.

It ended up a really dark green

Hair is not as important as the head its on,or not
