I can't begin to express how frustrating and saddening this is....every time it happens.

It's tragic and I'm so glad the gun laws over here are so tight

Nothing will change with regards to the gun laws over there.

There will always be those who say it is their right to be able to buy and own a gun.

i am watching msnbc now... local police are reporting at least 13 dead... at least 20 seriously injured...

with regards to gun control.... banning them, that bird has long flown.... but just simple stuff like limiting they types of guns? how many? limiting ammo, and extending rounds sells....

the little stuff you though would be so non contenious... but the NRA and the right wing say no to everything....

We will never have comprehensive gun control laws in the US until the 2nd amendment is changed. Or until the Supreme Court decides to see reason.

But since their last, and strongest decision was made just in 2010, I don't think we can rely on the Supreme Court reevaluating.

I agree. Their argument is always about home protection.

I'm sorry but I don't need an assalt rifle to protect my home when a baseball bat seems to do the job.

Even in the middle of the sticks a stun gun would work just as well

You have those kind of regulations in some states, like California, but the problem is, if you don't mind breaking the law to kill people, you probably don't care about breaking the laws around gun control.

Yup.

Anyone would think that widely available armaments were a bad idea.

Very sad.

Having been a rifle shooter competitively it is indeed astonishing how dumb the Republicans are to defend the 2nd amendment the way it was never intended for.

Regulation does work, its not perfect but if you het rid of the illegal ones tou will then know where the legal ones are.

Where, ever, is there a need for a semi auto rifle or hand gun??!!

That's always the gun lobby's argument.

"When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns"

Though that may just be cos so many have been made and sold that even if they banned them now, there's no way to retrieve what's already in circulation.

Sad to say this, and especially about the traffic loss of life, but it will be interesting to hear what sort of rhetoric will come from the mouths of the Republican candidates

Of course, guns don't kill people, it's the person behind the gun.

So don't sell guns to people who might go and kill others

That statement always pisses me off, guns enable people to kill "many" more people, if they didn't have access to a gun, they'd use a knife, not so easy to kill 10/20 people in one go with that is it......

Americans and their stupidity never fails to amaze and sadden me!!

I've a few American friends on facebook - added for extra goodies on a game - and one of those is into guns. He posts no end of wacko stuff about how without guns the government would take their rights away. I find it all rather depressing, to be honest.

In America there are so many guns and it is so much a part of their cultural identity, it is hard to see now how the genie can be put back in the bottle.

The right to bear arms was written in to the declaration, to protect its citizens from despotic governments that could happen. It's up to them, do they put there faith in their elected representatives or risk their kids lives? But its all academic now.

I agree with the first half of your statement, but take issue with the second. Not all Americans are pro gun. And not all Americans are stupid.

A car can many good useful things, whereas guns only have a few uses. I'm not sure they are a good match.

Considering how many people have mental (untreated especially) health problems and have access to firearms, its not really surprising is it?

Did it say some Americans? The fact that the Lounge mostly consists of people from the UK means that the statement won't offend most. But if I ever say "The British and their stupidity never fails to amaze and sadden me" I guarantee people would be very angry. And rightly so. It happens a lot on here when American news comes up that Americans are called stupid, and it is insulting.

Bowling for Columbine the documentary shows it is not just about guns or gun control as Canada is a country where most of the population own a gun and yet there is low gun crime and few killings.

It did ask "why" is American society so violent which seems to hit the nail on the head. Americans are not stupid, not all Americans are pro gun, it is sad when anyone is killed the problem is complicated and nobody seems to know the answer to "why" it happens so if you do not know why how can you stop it?

ps We have no problem with anyone voicing the opinion that Brits are stupid sometimes like most folk we can be very stupid just add alcohol stand back watch and see.

But those are not find that are in the hands of the general public, that are rigidly controlled and distributed.

To give any gun, be it a handgun or full automatic, to a citizen with little or no checks or training or control is just madness.

They were even giving away rifles if you opened a bank account

And how about baby pink guns for your five year old daughter to go with her fluffy unicorn ?

How is that responsible ?

Instead of this country get rid of the legal ones, so people get illegal ones.
