So 11 million Volkswagen's and now Audi are owning up to fraud as 2.1 million of their cars were fitted with the emissions cheat software.
I wonder how many Skod's, Seat's and Lamborghini's are affected...

Do they do a diesel Lamborghini..
Seriously though ... It's got to be group wide... I heard on a report one of their (vag group)own engineers sounded alarm bells internally over 4 years ago.. saying it was illegal..
Wonder if any of the engineers went to work for a.n.other manufacturer and said "I've an idea..". |

They'll know exactly which vehicles are affected and will issue a recall. |

Well I have to say that our company Skoda is a really really good car.
It's hugely spacious, goes very quickly indeed and on a good day I've had 70 mpg on a trip.
I was a bit worried that they might re-chip it during a recall and it would lose all the performance - but it seems so far that it's not the same engine that has the offending software.

So the engine will be cut back to meet the test permanently
Could that cause the engine to maul and cause damages to Crank etc long term, Be like driving with a brick under the accelerator I assume |

It'll most likely be an alteration to the fuel/air mix, timing and turbo boost pressures. I'd be expecting more problems with things like the EGR valve, swirl flaps and DPF as a result. |

Because there's going to be tax increases across the board for all diesel users in light of this scandal. At least VAG drivers might get compensated.

Aha... gotcha.
Well I bought my car cause he's cool. The only spec I wanted was a 2.0l engine and heated seats. Both of which I've got. I had no idea that the swanky wheels would have tyres that are 300 quid a pop until I got a puncture! . I guess I'll take what's going as the price I pay for having my dream car but I'm pretty sure I'm not telling VW that when they tell me I've gotta pay the higher road tax band. |

I'm guessing that diesels in general will suffer now - people will move away from diesel to petrol and resale values will hit the floor. And they may review the taxation of diesel cars as a result, possibly adding a levy to them. |

You probably won't end up paying any more tax anyway. The remapping of the ECU will result in the car being permanently in 'test' mode, therefore it will meet the regulations requirements (and the published figures).
You will notice significantly reduced performance though. |

The whole group VW has produces 11mio cars..this includes
Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, and overseas-brands SEAT and Skoda
Brussels were informed about the issue in an internal memorandum from Berlin 4 1/2 years ago, when there were attempts to change the laws in regard of emissions linked to Diesel engines.
It stayed an attempt due to the intervention of "Mutter Merkel" & friends as she pointed out that it would "ruin" a main stand of the German industry.
The Frankfurt Allgemeine newspaper ran all this at that time and no one bothered at all |

Run-flats are your tyres.
If your car is found to be one of those affected then, yes, they can make you. If you don't your car won't comply with emissions regulations and therefore won't be fit for the road. |

Vehicle not as advertised would be more appropriate but I'd agree. If it's one of the affected vehicles I'd have thought it would be grounds to reject the car. |

The car can't be run permanently in test mode, can it? Thought there was a chemical added to counter the NO2 in the emissions and the device only carried a small amount of it.
Don't think the road tax can go up either, if a car's in a specific tax band, surely it has to stay there and the point of the fine to VW will be to pay the DVLA the money they lost out on by undercharging drivers in the first place.
Also can anything actually be done to these cars to reduce their emissions now? I'd be surprised. |

Vag group is germanys biggest company. What it tells us is that when business, s get really big and powerful. ..politically powerful they operate in a way that is totally self serving. They become monopolies that will pervert justice if need be to remain dominant. Strong government needs to step in act harshly to represent the peoples interests. This stuff has happened before...and this will not be the last...!!! |

OK this will be a bit of fact free winging it,
This has come about because of the demand for power and economy from consumer and pressure for eco from coverment,
Engines dont really have the ability to output both so they bodge the test results,
What about other makes, They must be competitive with tax band and performance outputs
So are they not really as good as the German alternatives in tax etc
Are they likely to be next caught and doing the same trick
Or have they actually got engines that do produce decent stats and vag just lazy
Or am I looking at It wrong,
Guess I'am thinking if vag had to do this to output these stats and other makes are comparable in stats, what method are other manufacturers using

You're not still on run-flats are you?
I have no idea what that means!!
And the performance will only be affected if I take him back... can they make me?
Run-flats are your tyres.
If your car is found to be one of those affected then, yes, they can make you. If you don't your car won't comply with emissions regulations and therefore won't be fit for the road.
Yeah I googled them... that's not what I have. What I have are 19" low profiles. No more punctures please!
Well fuckity fuck I hope my Barney isn't one of the ones affected. Twats! "
Where are you buying tyres?!
Mine are nowhere near that much... |

I only bought one cause I was down south and didn't have a lot of choice. I'll shop around when I need them next. They're not standard stock apparently. |

"Well I have to say that our company Skoda is a really really good car.
It's hugely spacious, goes very quickly indeed and on a good day I've had 70 mpg on a trip.
I was a bit worried that they might re-chip it during a recall and it would lose all the performance - but it seems so far that it's not the same engine that has the offending software.

Hmmmmm sounds good, any chance of a wee test drive Janet.

This surely is fraud on a huge scale, the road tax the treasury has been swindled out of is simply criminal matter with a huge knock on affect to customers. If joe public commits tax fraud they want they're money, fines and possible jail sentences. |

Early days, the US are likely to want to make scapegoats of one or two executives. The US car industry has been crushed by foreign imports, mainly Japanese, they'll see this as an opportunity to claim some moral high ground. |

"My new A3 is ready on Wednesday if it starts chucking out black smoke like the flying Scotsman I'm not taking it !
I'm not a solicitor but Wouldn't the fact its notable to produce the performance figures be under the a trade descriptions and not fit for purpose reason to return for a full refund .?.. "
I think it's the engine before the current model but yes I agree people should be entitled to a full refund or a new car and based on that scenario VW could go out of business |
