"just been googling it as it was hand written .. it's Dalwhinnie. Tasted it before sticking lemon in, couldn't not. Tasted nice and round "
Dalwhinnie is really easy to drink as it's so light.
Feel better soon and then appreciate the whisky without the hot water.

I bought my dad an irish whiskey ... Tyrconnell ? Tasted that and that was like silk. No burn at all. Smooth an didn't need to be tempered at all. I am not a whiskey drinker |

"Would you ever make a hot toddy out of a 15yr old variety, or have I just bastardized some very hard work?"
Perfectly acceptable to make hot toddies from single malt whiskey but never from single malt whisky |

Andy is a Scot and fiercely proud of the nations whisky. But you should drink it however you enjoy it. That is #1.
That said people who know less about it would be well advised to seek advice from the more learned as you can both enhance and take away from the superb flavours very easily if you are not careful. That is a waste.
But most importantly; enjoy it. |

"He only ever drinks Single Malts, but he wouldn't mix it with anything, he wont even put an ice cube in. "
It is never a good idea to put ice in whisky. Cooling it down so much means your tongue cannot taste it.
However many whiskies are utterly transformed by the merest drop of water. Distillers of the stuff will take water in the whisky they make if neede so it seems sensible to take their lead. |

"Noooooo!!!!! Single malt should be d*unk with a splash of water.
Use cheap stuff or blended in coffee if at home. Only use single malt if entertaining & wanting to look good. "
Not all needs water. Many can be enjoyed as they are bottled.
Whisky comes out the cask at about 55-65% alcohol give or take and the vast majority of what is bottled is diluted to around 40%.
Most whisky around this ABV does not NEED water. Many people like the water to soften it further.
Cask strength whiskies will almost all benefit from a tiny bit of water to awaken them.
It is all dependent on the whisky. There is no hard and fast rule.
The exception is Whyte and Mackay or Bells. They need loads of water. To wash it down the sink. |

The malt whisky society in Edinburgh and Leith are fabulous places. Give them a Google. You can use the one in Town without being a member. Some fabulous malts. Cask strength 55/60%.
I have the Zamazaki Japanese whisky and it's excellent. I think sainsburys do it for around £45.
If you like something reasonably priced and very heavily peaty and smoky then Ardbeg 10. About £50. Not for the faint hearted
I have a thing for malts, , and Gin, and Champagne , and .......... |

They can see you coming if you are paying £50 for a 10 year old Ardbeg. |

I have a 21 year old Balvenie bought for my sons 21st as that is one of the stills in my dad village. Will open it when he gets married. I also have a bottle of Johnny Walker blue label which is apparently worth something, that is also being saved for the top table at my sons wedding.
So now I need my son to get married.
I have cheap shit for my toddies |

Caol Ila 15 year old is particularly good (rich with just a hint of smoke without it being overpowering)
Highland Park 12 or 15. 12 is lovely for every day, 15 is special! The 18 is very very special |

For a toddy I had a morrisons cold and flu lemon drink, honey, Jack Daniels Honey and hot water, it wasn't too bad. If I have one in the morning before work, i should probably skip the whiskey |
