Why do women "have to shave"?

I need a rant.

I was just talking to a guy on a dating site, been speaking to him for a few weeks and was thinking he seemed like quite a nice guy. He just told me that his worst dating experience was when after a lovely evening he went back to a girl's house, got into the bedroom and she "had a hairy fanny" so he made excuses and left.

Now, obviously this guy is a bellend. But WHY is it so horrendous for women to have body hair?! If this was a one off I'd still be horrified, but so many guys make remarks like this. I'm sorry, I don't like it totally bald! It looks weird to me! I *want* to say "it's my body & if you don't like it, fuck off" but it's just the done thing & I actually feel like I'm in the wrong for not wanting to shave it all off! I feel like if I meet a new guy I need to make excuses for not being freshly waxed, when the reality is I just don't fucking want to!

Even when the topic comes up on here it tends to be slightly older people who say they like a bit of hair and younger ones say whap it all off.

I LIKE MINE FUZZY!

Almost 80% of young girls like completely shaved men (chest, legs, arms, face). We are even

I have never met a girl who liked a guy with shaved arms and legs. Chest/groin yeah but legs no.

For me I like a trimmed/shaved fanny Purley because I don't like hair in my teeth.

Love your body with hair or no hair only you decide buff or bush. If a man or woman were to be as imature to say such a thing should not be given the privilege to enter the lady garden. We are all different which offers more types of beautiful fruit.

I'd question the methodology behind whatever found that tbh.

Mainly because I'd be surprised if there was much if any difference and washing habits etc would completely nullify any intrinsic benifit of either.

You are free to go with your choices and everyone else is free to go with their choices

Maybe have it written on your profile that you don't shave then it won't be a suprise to them

Personally i am always shaved (no one would find stubble on my foo ) and i wouldn't meet anyone who wasn't shaved as that is my choice

I agree with the point you're making. While I I personally prefer to be waxed I have problems with horrible ingrowing hairs and it can cause problems so I don't have it done often and shaving sometimes gives me a rash.

When the question is asked on here you feel like you're almost apologising for having a bit of fuzz. It's not a massive deal to me to have a bit of hair so why does it make me feel that I need to explain myself !

Men shaving all over is plain wrong. Big hair genitals - no. Hairy chest - yum.

Before I was introduced to swinging it never really occurred to me to totally shave.

Admittedly this wasn't a topic discussed at lunchtimes with fem colleagues, but from seeing women in changing rooms at the pool or gym, I guess most women I noticed were just nicely trimmed.

I remember actually apologising once to the nurse during a smear test, that I'd had a 'radical' shave; when I'd felt horny the weekend before and whipped it all off.

Back then it looked perverted, like I was trying to mimic being a little girl again!!!

Now with swinging, oral just feels so good being smooth. And it seems most people are shaved when you perve in clubs,it's just the swinger social norm I guess!

I do shave but that's my choice. I prefer it that way. I don't feel under any pressure to do it really.

I think for a lot of younger guys it's become the expectation due to porn. It's possibly also why a lot of women do it.

I'm with you though OP it's your body and your choice and they should count themselves lucky to even get that far.

No! He's a bellend because that was his "worst dating experience" even though by his own admission he'd had a lovely night with the girl. What a very immature attitude, beat the poor lass was wondering what she did wrong when everything was going well then all of a sudden he went cold on her.

Reason why I did not do the Laser. Shaving takes time and it is not healty for the skin. Hence doing it only on request. In this case we should organise a "hairy" meeting with you and your friends

I've had quite a few men ask me not to shave, they like a lot of hair. And I've recently been sent abuse and called a hairy piggy because I turned someone down. I was fed up with being expected to shave bare for a man when he doesn't give oral. It's not more hygienic to shave it just feels nicer for some people. I now only shave when I feel like it or when you feel it's a request and not a demand.

Also trimmed is perfect Jackson 5 is too extreme for me instead XDXD

Just to clarify, before I was meaning fully shaved, apart the pube. I leave it trimmed because it is healthier

I like to wonder when it happened. You know, all this lady shaving, not THAT many years ago NOBODY shaved their foo and now if they don't its 'disgusting'... I am agreeing with op point completely, he was immature AND I've been on dates and not shaved in the hope I wouldn't take my Knicks off (as its from an actual dating site) but have done and nothing was said. I have to admit mine goes through cycles of what I'm doing or what I can be arsed with. If there is hair there it's kept neat though.

It isn't. Simples.

And if a man insists a woman should keep her body the way he demands, then I'd say she dodged a bullet. If he can be so controlling so early in a potential relationship, just imagine how bad it could be once he got up a bit of steam!

I genuinely don't care about body hair. Fuzzy/not fuzzy... it makes no odds. I'm unlikely to stick a pair of fuzzy nads in my mouth but only cause I can't be arsed picking pubes out my teeth.

The girl very possibly had a lucky escape as the man obviously does not understand about hygiene.

Body hair has a purpose and the purpose of pubic hair is protection.

However apart from that it has been proven that shaving or waking the pubic region before a meet leaves the person open to a range of STIs that are transmitted via fluids such as Chlamydia and Gonorrhea and poses a significant increased risk of contracting STIs that are transmitted via skin-to-skin contact such as HPV and Herpes.

The reason for this is when a person shaves or waxes, etc. the microscopic wounds that are formed provide an entry point for bacteria, parasites, and viruses.

This combined with the warm moist environment of the genitals, it becomes the perfect place for pathogen growth.

Safer sex includes not shaving the pubic area

I don't understand why some feel pressurised into shaving or apologising for not being shaved. I sometimes completely shave sometimes just trim. However the mood takes ME. It's never been an issue with any of the guys I've met. ...It normally doesn't even come up in conversation. I guess the type of person for whom it would be an issue has long been ed out of the selection process by the time we get round to discussing public hair.

So....an intelligent, attractive, articulate and sexy girl, (ok, making assumptions) is a worse date ever because she has pubic hair?

The guy is too shallow to even form a puddle.

There was a post earlier in the week on this subject and as I said then (green arrow) I personally do not mind whether someone is natural, trimmed or fully shaven. It is just a fashion choice for the majority of people which has now become the 'norm'. It also has nothing to do with cleanliness etc. Just an urban myth, expect in the minority of cases, lice perhaps.

I certainly wouldn't want a man who shaved off all his body hair. Saying that I did date a guy with alopecia totalise: he didn't have any body hair.

I've taken to 'pre-warning' my meets that I don't fully shave (I'm neatly trimmed) because of the various forum posters who state that it's a deal breaker. Nobody has ever backed out of a meet because of it. Actually, they've all loved it so I should stop even mentioning it.

There have been an awful lot of men who profess to loving oral but conveniently forget when the time comes. It's no big thing as I'm not that fond of it,but when a man won't because of an excuse that he keeps it for a gf,or he thinks he may catch a disease but expects to stick his cock in my mouth at every opportunity, that's when I feel annoyed. A man who never does it ever I will give special dispensation to,not everyone likes everything

I prefer waxed as someone previously mentioned its better during oral sex. The smoothness also adds to the attraction but thats just my preference but i dnt think its that much of a big deal that I'd actually walk out on a lady because of.

I find it a bit tragic as I think porn has been a major influence on this pressure for people to shave. People may not feel that they're influenced by others but the likelihood is that where a large group of people adopt a behavioural 'norm' - and I think that going hairless has somewhat become this - that they are influenced by others. Even if we feel that we are acting alone and not under influence, the probability is that we are.

Our skin isn't really meant to be hairless, which is why we have them. Hair removal isn't particularly healthy as it can leave us open to irritation and infections, including sexually transmitted infections - viruses, bacterial and fungal. It is just less healthy for us. Keeping ourselves clean isn't too difficult in the modern world, it just needs some cleanser and water.

Arranging appointments for waxing etc can be a hassle and so the 'meet now' option can be out of bounds, if partners aren't that well matched, in terms of their skin expectations. OK, some of the immediacy that people can expect, such as meeting within half an hour, when you're perhaps in your scruffs and want to shower etc, prevents the type of preparation that many would like. It's almost as if we're all subliminally expected to be ready for a porn shoot, dressed hot and ready, skin prepped etc.

Maybe we should return to a more natural style of living, where sex happened freely and people weren't under such pressures to be so keenly preened? It's a pain going through rashes, irritation and opening yourself to potential infections, not to mention the costs of being ever-ready.

Really ? Really ? Because I have body hair and feel pressured to do so and it really hurts when it comes back.A hairy back though that is bad !! Reminds me of the basketball scene in Along Came Polly with Ben Stiller.....yuk !! Most girls had hair on their beaver in the 90's so I often wonder what brought about the change ? A landing strip looks really really hot ! But if it's a retro box where the hair goes from the muff right round to the tea towel holder well that's just fooking gross.

This is my issue. They don't look 'quite right' to me. It's like they are adult and fully formed/matured in one sense... yet, they're pre-pubescent 'looking' in another, because they're bald and have no pubic hair.

Hmm... doesn't sit right with me, I'm afraid.

Have to agree with the OP that his reaction was decidedly juvenile.

I have never felt pressured to conform to the perceived norm.

I very rarely shave totally, it's usually because I messed up and have no choice

The fact I have pubic hair is very clear from some of my photos so it shouldn't be a shock and I've never had anyone baulk. ( is that spelt right?)

For me I want those I meet to be comfortable with whatever hair they choose to have. Though I must confess to a preference for totally natural on a man. I find it masculine and sexy

Then I would suggest that you're perpetuating the "have to shave" mentality.

On here shaved is seen as the norm, wrongly in my opinion and it has been suggested to me that I forewarn meets that I have pubic hair. I won't be doing that because I don't want to contribute to the culture that says hair is bad and abnormal.

Off topic a bit, but I wonder if the person who designed Crics realised they had invented the most effective form of contraception "

What! We have matching crocs and this has had no effect whatsoever on our sex life.

Oh and I like a bit of body hair on a man and I trim rather than shave, no complaints received so far.

I shave down below because I personally like feeling smooth silky skin on myself. NOT because a man asks or expects me to be smooth. "

I know "facts", I stated them. Young girls 16-25 do like fully shaved body and trimmed pube. It is a fact. Men have hair, but nowadays women prefer more feminine men. Another fact...

I am the opposite, but I adapt to my partner(s). I like to change: hairy body or shaved body.

Another thing: you are english so maybe you are not aware of ot, but on summer resorts a lot of men are fully shaved, because the society requires it...final fact "hunny"

Then I would suggest that you're perpetuating the "have to shave" mentality.

On here shaved is seen as the norm, wrongly in my opinion and it has been suggested to me that I forewarn meets that I have pubic hair. I won't be doing that because I don't want to contribute to the culture that says hair is bad and abnormal."

And I have yet to see anyone saying why it's more hygienic. Surely if you maintain basic hygiene neither is more hygienic than the other unless unbeknownst to me shaved skin is somehow Teflon coated.

Shaving pubic hair removes the 'cushion' against friction, leaves microscopic open wounds and increases your risk of infections and STI's, in particular herpes.

Ok, yes they are adult and fully formed/matured in one sense... yet, with the bald appearance they're pre-pubescent and childlike looking in another, and thus the lines become blurred....

As I've already said, it's nothing to do with his preference. It's the fact that this is his "worst date ever" even though it was a lovely evening up until this point, and he told me this story with complete venom for the poor girl and her choices.

Everyone is entitled to their own preferences, I don't think anyone is entitled to make other people feel bad about theirs.

Fair enough how about this;

He could have expressed his preferences in a way that didn't make him sound like a shallow prick, shes had a lucky escape if after a lovely evening he enjoyed he could write her of over something that most would find insignificant, he obviously found it significant which made him look a bit of a pedantic ass
