Like when you are in conversation?
It's something I notice more and more recently.
When chatting with someone I do always pay interest to the other person but, more and more people nowadays just want to talk about themselves.
Everything that is said always gets turned round to them and what they have done etc etc then you just end up feeling like a spare part just turning up to observe lol
It's then that I switch off........cake time........ |

Yep! I just drift into a little world of my own. I find this type of person often complains that people don't visit.....hmmm wonder why. Try sticking your next out and conversing instead of just talking at people. |

I'm always switched off, used to have really poor concentration but had some, it's given up altogether now.
I avoid people who talk about themselves all the time, facebook is for those people, or questionnaires.

Oh! I like this. I'm gunna steal it!

"the irony is we all participate in threads where talking about ourselves is almost inevitable "
Haha
So true!
But none of us are in denial about our attention seeking |

Yes, I do switch off.
When ever we meet up with the family, 2 members keep bringing everything back to them. I tend to sit back and be quiet or go for a wander round the shops with the granddaughter. |

Until they stop and say something like
" so what do you think I should do", then I panic trying to find a universal answer so it looks like I was paying a bit of attention. |

I always try to avoid talking about myself. I like to find out about the other person and leave it to them to ask me things about myself, that way you are only telling them things that interest them. Thou sometimes I have been accused of asking too many questions so it's a fine balancing act. I love to chat thou |

Yes, often when someone starts talking about themselves and they don't try to listen to you..I go quiet and think of recipes and what I could be doing instead. |

No, I don't switch off. I have a hard time having a conversation with someone and not listening. I also find that I am generally interested in what other people have to say about themselves and their experiences.
However, if someone does it consistently (like if every time I talk to someone I have to sit through long stories about their kids or something), then I just don't talk to that person. If they wanted to know why, I would tell them.

Surely this is how a conversation works? You say something and then the other person replies with their take on what you said?
Lets say for example you say I don't like swingers, people can only reply with their views and experiences, |
