I'm getting quotes for catering for an event I'm helping with and a buffet dinner is coming in about £50 per head not including drinks... I never expected it be even half that...
Is that a normal kind of price?
Back to the drawing board! |

sounds extortionate to me;i had a job a while back that entailed me organising a couple of things like that and in central london they were way less than that!
if you have a catering college near you it may be worth enquiring whether they can do anything, some cater events as part of their training. |

"
About 3 years ago. If i remember meal about £50 but not counting wines, coffee, brandy which took it over £200 a head.
But caterers wont be including drinks for £50 ] |

That's expensive. I do catering and I start at about £6 a head. I don't do hot service though and you will pay extra for a hot service and fork buffets
Was that with waiters to serve the food/clear away etc or was it just a basic buffet? |

It was with the staff too.
I will contact a catering college, that's a great idea thank you. |

So hot food and staff to serve it to people?? Thays going to bump your cost per head up somewhat.
At my running clubs Christmas do last year we had a hot buffet bit you just went up and helped yourself. |

"Sandwich platters from Costco go a long way, you can pre order a lot of it too
C..."
All the supermarkets do sandwich platters.
If no joy with the catering college (and remember most colleges have a catering/hospitality course) try local cafes.
For a buffet you only really need clearing staff and someone to man the bar. |

Bloody hell.. that's a 3 course gourmet meal. I would get alternative quotes. If it's a buffet then to be honest for £50 you could make quite a slap up yourself. |

That's what your basically paying for then trained service staff to give out canapés.
If you ditch the canapés and have a savoury fork buffet and a sweet buffet you should be looking at around 12-15 a head for a good quality buffet |

Is this in a hotel?
Sounds expensive too me, I've organised xmas parties before in different venues and depending on the type of food (hot / cold / courses etc) sit down waitress service £40-50 pp inc 1/2 bottle wine and buffets in the £20-30 bracket.
Of course if you're in a 4* plus venue then you're paying for that as well as the food.
Are you on facebook,I find a lot of local service recommendations that way. |

Thank you I'll consider that as well as an option. It's not a hotel its a hall.
By served to guests, I mean help cut up slices of quiche etc, behind a buffet when people move along with the plates...
Thank you everybody for your tips and advice |
