What is it with the "lefty" comments?

I am seeing the remark "lefty" used as an insult. Hasn't there always been parties that have a vision for Britain and are either left or right wing or in-between.
So for the "righties", do you believe in:
* Nhs - lefty
* Free education - lefty
* Help to get back into work after accident or redundancy - lefty
* Affordable university fees or grants (not loans) - lefty
* Protection of you working rights - lefty
Aren't we all left and right in our beliefs (some more than other).
So why the lefty remark? |

"except for uni fees their all centre policys.
every fucker moans there all the same, its because politicly they have it largely right. "
True. But I hated that people a year older than me had grants. That is better than loans. |

"Lots of people hate lefty socialists.
Take away state schools, the NHS and pensions/welfare and see how much they cry and stamp their feet. "
Who will cry and stamp their feet? |

"Lefty should also be used in conjunction with pinko liberal, sandal wearing, do gooding, soft on crime not in the real worlders..
i know worlders is not a word.. "
Not to forget simpering, comfort blanket hugging, red tie wearing Guardian/Independent readers.
It's a fair cop |

"I'd love to put that I'm a Guardian reading, feminist lefty on my profile, hopefully it would put a lot of people off! "
Hubba hubba? That would mean the ones who are not put off by it will put you off them. If that makes sense. |

"I'm left handed.
So am I. And proud of it.
Oh hello OP
Come to think of it you did use your left hand more
Haha!! It does feel more comfortable "
I am dropping the politics and I am now campaigning for left handed swingers. Feels better than right handed swingers. Otherwise my hands just clash. |

They've all shifted rightward since Thatcher's and Reaganomics helped shaft the world.
I think use of the term mirrors the American attempts at insult 'liberal' - it's weak, immature and pathetic. But right wingers typically are significantly more stupid than left leaning people, so it's hardly surprising.
George Osborne got a poor degree qualification, with a previous job just as a towel folder. He sums up the weight of the right's brightness, alongside the pig gob slimeball.
Let the infantile comments be attempted, such oinks never have gravitas. |

DI Grim from Rowan Atkinsons thin blue line was always good for a venomous anti pinko,commie,lefty rant.......
Fowler: And in the hope of winning twenty million pounds.
Grim: Yes, and we want to know that, by winning twenty million pounds, we will be helping little kiddies, NOT haughty, hoity, stick it up your toity, high and mighty, tight-nosed, toffee-arsed, sun-dried-tomato-eating lah-de-dah-dy lah-de-daas.

As a lefty Guardianista type, I do like that this thread is a heady mix of good humoured and sensible. It's like Steve bell scripted it but without the drawings.
It is true that lefty and feminist now seem almost put down words in some circles. It amuses me as much as it frustrates.
Having said that, I forgot to register myself properly to vote and looked a right knob when I turned up at the ballot box, only to be turned away for not really existing.
Would anyone like to be my personal assistant on no pay intern terms? Adventure capitalism when it's needed...
