I cringe a little but punctuation is more irritating. There are so many people who text or message without any punctuation whatsoever, completely oblivious to the fact that their text can now be interpreted in several different ways.

"Couldn't give a shit, I'd be more worried if I got depressed by someone else's spelling"

Well, I really don't want to be a grammar/spelling Nazi but sometimes it is so bad that I can't actually understand what is being written. Punctuation is vital, really.

And the depression comes not just from this forum but also from my job, where I have to read lots of documents written by adults who have either not bothered or not learnt to spell properly.

It really isn't that much effort, is it?

Yes, fucking hate that.

Regional accents are part of our culture and one shouldn't be too critical. But in the 'Black Country' there is a weird pronunciation phenomena which as a displaced southener I find odd and rather irritating.

Phone is pronounced Fowun, Road is Row-ud, June Joo-wun, but it can also be completely random with oddities like Town = T-ow-wun. Tbh they seem to make it up as they go along and it becomes more like an affectation.

I think that is a bit strong.

What we do on here is assess people and decide if we have an attraction to them. As a great many people state, attraction is as often mental as it is physical.

If someone cannot even be bothered to write entire words or check that what they have written is legible or correct then there is a chance that there will be little or no mental connection if you do value the ability to communicate. An ability which is a central tenet of human civilisation after all and without which we would struggle to have evolved.

Some people do not value that and they are welcome to that opinion and long may they prosper. However denigrating those who value certain traits is rather short sighted and perhaps a little sad.

'Black Country' is usually used to refer to areas of West Midlands who are not "Brummies". It's not necessarily a comment on race or skin colour.

Black Country is in reference to the industrial revolution when the high level of coal mines, iron foundries and steel mills left the area with high levels of air pollution caused by soot from the industries. Nothing to do with races of people lol.

oh boy, may i spark your brain a little here. First off, you stated attraction is mental aswell as physical, the fact is mental attraction is at its best when all or most of the sensory organs and abilities are engaged ( not just the ability to topographically reproduce processed information perfectly on paper ) ..... in other words being mentally attracted to someone involves perceiving and accepting not just their ability to write good english but a whole lot more is involved eg their intelligence level, sex appeal, aura, personality etc.

secondly, you stated that if someone cant write entire words or check that their words are correct then there is little chance of a mental connection if you can be bothered to talk to them. That statement makes u sound arrogant and ignorant. Has it crossed your mind that some people are dyslexic and cant always get their spellings right. And what makes you think they would want to bother with an ignorant personality like yours seeing you cant even challenge your thought and have a wider view before making your assumptions.

i think its a bit shallow minded to reduce mental attraction to ones ability to write, you never know,,, the man you condemn for not writing good english might just be better than you in bed and fuck your wife good

Whatever we think of the OP's point the saddest aspect of all this is there really are many who simply do not know the difference between various words that sound the same but mean different things when spelt differently.

And if only that itself had been correct, your supercilious twaddle of an OP wouldn't have just fallen flat on its face.

However denigrating those who value certain traits is rather short sighted and perhaps a little sad.

oh boy, may i spark your brain a little here.

And what makes you think they would want to bother with an ignorant personality like yours seeing you cant even challenge your thought and have a wider view before making your assumptions.

i think its a bit shallow minded to reduce mental attraction to ones ability to write, you never know,,, the man you condemn for not writing good english might just be better than you in bed and fuck your wife good"

Grand.

Those are your values and welcome you are to them.

However I did not say that the only outlet for mental attraction is the ability to communicate. However it is one facet which many people value.

However taking every differing argument as some sort of attack (undoubtedly you will deny this) and responding in an aggressive manner is another facet which people may or may not turn people off.

As is assuming that the writer of a post is male.

And that he is married.

But each to their own.

When the only medium which you have to communicate is written English then it can limit some people's desire to interface with a person.

In a club communication is seldom exclusively written and as such verbal communication is used to inform bystanders of your personality. If you communicated verbally in a dreadful way I am sure some people would be turned off in a similar vein.

This is a site where impressions are important to people and communication forms the gateway to a person's personality.

Therefore different people react variously to different communication techniques.

It is their choice.

"It's "SHOULD OF" that gets to me, I can't handle it

Yes, fucking hate that.

Regional accents are part of our culture and one shouldn't be too critical. But in the 'Black Country' there is a weird pronunciation phenomena which as a displaced southener I find odd and rather irritating.

Phone is pronounced Fowun, Road is Row-ud, June Joo-wun, but it can also be completely random with oddities like Town = T-ow-wun. Tbh they seem to make it up as they go along and it becomes more like an affectation.

Just out of curiousity what countries u referrin to as black country ? A little bit of common sense goes a long way. Countries are defined by a name eg nigeria, wales, china etc they are not defined by a colour. Countries also make up continents and continents make up the world.

send your wife my way so i send you some educational leaflets through her

Aren't the midlands referred to as the Black Country? It's nothing to do with colour.

Black Country is in reference to the industrial revolution when the high level of coal mines, iron foundries and steel mills left the area with high levels of air pollution caused by soot from the industries. Nothing to do with races of people lol."

Exactly that, alongside the coal seams - and the Black Country is a small part of the midlands, covering what would have been small parts of Staffordshire, Worcestershire though now largely in the West Midlands - but a small part of that nonetheless. Great people and a heritage that's done much for the UK.

Goodness me. No one mentioned dyslexic people and no one has judged them.

However simply not being able to write in a coherent way does not make you dyslexic.

I might as well have a go at you for discriminating against people who only have really small horses as they cannot get on their high horse. It is totally fatuous and irrelevant.

Why can you not get over the fact that some people (we have not even said if we subscribe to this idea) find people who cannot be bothered to write properly when they otherwise have no reason not to, a turn off.

Your tone is increasingly hysterical.

People are at liberty to find specific traits in people attractive or not attractive and you are not the person to adjudicate on what people may or may not be attracted to.

Please climb down off your own horse however tall it may be and join us all in the pub.

By saying some peoples desire to interface with someone is determined by the correctness of their spellings is more or less saying you cant be bothered to make an effort to put the pieces of their words together and decode it. Boils down to your tolerance level of those without the priviledge of a good education.

You also mentioned the bit about if you are in a club and you communicated verbally in a dreadful way while chatting up a girl some people would be turned off. I agree spoken words is necessary to break the ice but people would form an impression of you anyway based on your body language not necessarily your spoken words or the correctness of your spoken words or the contents of the words that comes out of your mouth, this is where the other most prominent sensory organs plays the most important part in communication and it happens on a subconscious level.... ive approached posh women and even grammar nazis at uni and my style and choice of words were totally street slangs and yet managed to get their number and get in their knickers.

Another factor that influences interraction regardless of good spoken english in clubs is the ' opposite syndrome effect ' . This is where people of opposite values ( eg a grammar nazi and a person who cant spell properly ) feel an attraction towards one another on a chemical level, its the law of nature - opposites attract, explains why you hear the term 'good girls go for badboys ' and this often happens a lot at clubs,, nothing to do with the correctness of their words.

And yes you are right, different people will react variously to different communication techniques cos we are not all the same but you can atleast take your time to view things from a dyslexics point of view from time to time

No, your capabilities will not matter if you don't get s reply (on here) if your message is dismissed because grammar values don't align.

How did you guess?!

I'm not a fan of bad spelling and grammar but only because I wish to read and take in what that person is saying. You're letting yourself down if you can't express yourself in a way that the recipient can't understand.

Yep, I see all sorts of poor grammar, spelling, etc. I'm by no means perfect (and have already been hoist by my own petard on this thread). I really don't mind the typo or poor grammar but, in too many cases, this is so poor that it renders messages almost unintelligible.

I have just given up on some messages because it is too much effort to try to decipher.

As someone else said, the main means of communication on here is via written text and if you're messages are virtually unintelligible then you're doing yourself no favours I would have thought.

And really, how much effort is it...?

Okay, I know I'm opening myself up for a pasting, but really? I am not a grammar/spelling Nazi and try not to be pedantic but...

...well, is it only me who cringes to see so many blatant spelling, grammar and syntax errors?

Honestly, it depresses me. We have given the gift of the English language to the world and here we are, butchering it.

Oh, and here v hear.

Oh, and swop v swap....

The OP was asking do spelling etc errors make you cringe. Yes they do make me cringe, I can't help it.

Does it have any bearing on what I think of a person? Not in the slightest.

It is an effort for some people though. Hence why it doesn't put me off people at all. It's the content of the message and the intent of it that I do care about.

And yes you are right, different people will react variously to different communication techniques cos we are not all the same but you can atleast take your time to view things from a dyslexics point of view from time to time

"

You keep adding this unrelated appeal at the end of your posts.

All I ask is that you take your time to view things from the point of view of an orphaned Kangaroo in a Chinese zoo.

Think of the children.

Or maybe I just put an emotional appeal at the end of my post whic was totally unrelated to the subject matter so I may appear to be really empathetic and garner support from people who did not read most of the utter bilge I posted before the emotional bit.

If Fab did tv adverts.

Sad faced person clearly desperate for a fuck. Heartbreaking music playing.

Voice over: "Fab person X hasn't had a shag in a VERY long time. Dig deep in your heart. Think of how happy you would make this person if you would just offer them a sympathy shag. Don't delay... shag a Fab person today..."

Cut to Fab person with a big smile and all sweaty post-shag.

And if only that itself had been correct, your supercilious twaddle of an OP wouldn't have just fallen flat on its face.

I think that is a bit strong. "

Quite possibly; however the only time you'll find me criticising someone's spelling or grammar is when they start a post criticising that of others. Then I tend to go to town.

Poor English could be down to dyslexia, fat-fingers, auto-cucumber, carelessness or simply that the person wasn't fortunate to receive the education like wot I did got. Sometimes it can also be humour.

I have known amazing people who couldn't read or write, and Oxford graduates who were complete, arrogant, contemptuous twits.

Besides, let's face it, if that Keira Knightley asked me over, I wouldn't turn her down just because she split an infinitive, I wonder if the OP would...

Couldn't give a fuck what the grammar is like in all honesty, or how they treat their mum, uncle or cousin.

Like many, when seeking play partners we look for more than just physical attraction. How people express themselves is part of that equation.

Yes, we find poor grammar, spelling and punctuation irritating, though, this being an informal medium, we aren't too bothered by the odd typo or grammatical lapse.

At the end of the day, people will associate with whomever they wish, according to their own criteria, so there's little point in bitching about it.

Of course, there are those on here who think anyone with selection criteria that include qualities such as personality, education, cultural refinement etc., are up themselves and should fuck all comers. Such is life

"They don't annoy me excessively but I reserve the right to form my own opinion of the poster/messager/commenter/emailer just as I'm sure they do of me. "

I posted a reply on the other thread of the same title, I try to ensure my posts/messages are correct and I suppose I also form an opinion of individuals as I'm sure others do of me after some of the rants I received after my reply on the other thread

One thing to add, we always give examples of words spelt wrong that have other meanings but I've never seen reference to cum/come come up - should it be, 'I came on', or, 'I cum on'?

I only ask as on driving to work this morning I came on a dead badger.........

It's nothing to do with colour.

my bad , apologies.. im thick"

Kin ell, glad you ov writ this, I was about to launch a scathing attack.

My wife pleases herself btw, I don't 'send' her anywhere lol.

awww poor baba, the truth hit home init. Looking for a divert tactic? I would aswell, especially if found to be the shallowest minded on here.

hows your girl anyway, last time i asked you gave an excuse for her absence same as the other times before then. Is she available to talk to tonite then or what ?"

Why are you reporting to taunting, abuse and unfounded accusations? It is not really in the spirit of the forums.
