Tattoos are personal. Try looking at some websites for the sort that you find appealing and the place. You will live with a tattoo for a long time so do your research. |

Consider it carefully. Be sure about what you want and where you want it. It'll be there forever.
I have a six month rule. If I get a notion for a new tattoo or a piercing then I wait six months. If I still want it then I get it. |

Inside of your wrist x
Small and dainty either a girly flower or something considerate to you x
Advantages- small x cheap x pretty x easy to cover x not too painful x
Disadvantages- you'll have it forever if you don't like it - YOU MAY GET HOOKED AND WANT LOADS MORE !!!!! |

As above. Get the tattoo you want, not what someone else recommends. If you can't think of anything or are not inspired by anything you have seen, then don't get one. As to where that is again your choice. Consider whether you want to show them or not. Will you need to cover for work. This is all about your choice and what you want.

I'd suggest stepping back until you know what you want and where you want it.
Any tattoo artist will also agree that bigger = better. Obviously not massive but big enough to give them something decent sized to work with. |

I got first one last year at 46 inspired by the referendum so got a saltire butterfly. I found a relative that I hadn't spoken to in a good few years found out that she was a breast cancer survivor that inspired my next tattoo and my last one included my children's names and I've promised myself one more that will be dedicated to my parents that have both passed away...... Took me long enough to get them and they all mean something personal to me |

I never thought I would want a tattoo, then I seen a tattoo of a girl with one down her side from her rib cage to her hip...
I thought it looked really pretty, and got one myself...
A design that suited me and what I found pretty for me as a person ...
Dont get a tattoo as a trend..
Get what you can live with |

Don't go with what's 'in style', have a design that means something to you, you don't even have to choose one from a book, design your own if you have something in mind and showing it to your tattooist so they can tweak it and stuff works well too, even if you think it's a silly idea, a good tattooist will make it brilliant and wonderful, change things that you didn't think of, then your have a one off, special to you and not a number 49 from a book xx |

This x a million!
Never, ever get an off the wall design. Tattoos should be unique to you. Do you really want the same design as someone else, in the same place?
Browsing the net for inspiration is a good start, but you should always sit down with an artist and bounce ideas off each other. Any artist worth their salt (and your body as a canvas) will want to do a great job - not just an adequate one. And if your choice of artist is determined by cost? Stop. Save up. And go to someone decent who's work you have seen and who's reputation is good.
Should you make a shit choice of design or artist it may be possible to cover it up (or worse case get it lasered off) - but taking your time making the right decision in the first place will prevent the need to do so.
You'll have it for life. Make sure you'll be happy with it for life.

Most of mine are flash, and i went for things i really like, i've been a life long member of the RSPB thanks to my grandad so have many birds, my first tattoo was of a bird.
I also love skulls, plants, traditional designs etc, everything i like i have on me.
Go for something you love, it can be flash if you want it to be. You can like a particular design and have it done in a different style if you prefer that.
Look at loads of pics, and like someone said look at people with them, and eventually something will stand out to you and you'll want that. You'll probably find too much stuff you like tbh.

I saw a young lady in town the other day, she was wearing a short skirt and a crop top. She had tattoos on her arms, midriff and legs. They were all writing of some description, no pictures at all. I said to her "Blimey love, it would take me longer to read you than to shag you" |

As above, make sure it means something to you, don't go with the flow. Check the web for ideas and decide what and where it would look good. Think about how you'll feel about it in 30 years time?
I'm on my 2nd - a geometric dot piece, I have 2 designs in mind but again, placement will determine the design. Good luck |

Like i said most of mine are flash, nothing custom at all. I just chose things i liked and put them on me, they don't even have any meaning.
What i did do is make sure things 'match', like my skulls are near my owl, my boat is with my fish and water background. And the colours go together. It's not that hard to do really. And my artist(s) helped me fit things to my body, they did a good job overall. |

Mine are totally random. Just whatever I liked and where I had some space. I fancy having another but the 'urge' isn't there so I know it's not the right time yet. I love colour. |

I remember the pain, the urge has gone for me as well.
I like that better tbh, when people go for something random. I've noticed a lot of the 'custom' sleeves and work people have lately all looks the same an unoriginal. |

I got my first tattoo on my 15th birthday (it didn't go down too well) I thought I was the coolest person on earth until I went to school on the Monday and 3 other girls in my class had all had the exact same design done by a bloke who clearly knew how to draw nothing else and was tattooing underage girls. I got it covered up on my 18th birthday into a bigger piece on the bottom of my back, I then got a big piece starting at my neck and running down my spine (which I now want covering into something bigger), I got one down my forearm and a very small one on my collarbone. I love them all and have plans for my next one already (thigh piece) I am very impulsive hence the cover ups. He didn't have his first until he turned 40 and he spent weeks designing it and deciding on where it was going then researching tattooists. They are so personal that no one could ever suggest where or what to get just make sure you think it through carefully or it becomes costly. |
