Motivated by a catalogue I was reading earlier, where one of their products was spider repellent, it got me wondering why people find these eight leggity beasties so unappealing?
Whilst I don't like the thought of being bitten by one (or pretty much any animal for that matter), personally I find spiders interesting rather than scary, I don't even like destroying their webs when cleaning. |

I love spiders, so mini me isn't scared of them either, she likes to hold 5he cos they tickle, it does freak people out when she fetches a huge spider out the shed and stands there giggling while it walks up her arm. Very rare a spider in this country has the capability to bite, or vemon. So will just teach her about dangerous types as she gets older. |

Spiders are harmless!
I lived in the Amazon rainforest for almost a year and on a daily basis I would see tarantulas bigger than my hand and wondering spiders all walking in and around camp. Wondering spiders are one of the most poisonous spiders in the world.
The only injury I see involving a spider in all my jungle time, was a biologist panic after seeing a very large spider walking up her leg, she brushed it off running her fingers accross the blade of her machete!
It was about a 3 hour hike back to camp, 4 hours down river and another 6 by car to the nearest town (if you could call it a town)

you win on this thread lol! I'm ok with with spiders in general but the bigger ones where you can see their fangs do make me scream if they land on me, Lol.
I'd be no good in the jungle for sure! |

I love them - our UK ones that is: not found any overseas ones yet.
Had a 'pet' one live on my greenhouse for a couple of years, eventually getting a family.
And they're so beneficial to us. They trap so many insects, protecting our food etc. |

My cats decided to play with one in the night, it was in many bits on the living room floor. I can't stand them so they get squashed or sucked up the hoover in this house too. I have found conkers help. Putting them on windowsill, under the bed and in the corners of the rooms helps to keep them away. And peppermint spray is supposed to be good too. |

Just imagine what it would be like without spiders!! They have a hard time of it one way or another, they will prey on each other and birds take a lot of them. When you see blue tits exploring around your windows they are looking for spiders to eat. My favourite spiders are the little wolf spiders that hunt their prey using their eyesight and jumping on them. How wonderful to see spiderlings setting off on their journeys hanging on the end of a length of gossamer, letting the wind take them high up and for many many miles. We can't do without them |

Apparently if you catch a spider in a glass jar an put it in the sun the spider explodes..... and I was told put 2 spiders in a jar, they fight to the death then put the winner in the sun an it explodes..... my only flaw in the plan is getting close enough with the glass jars.... nope they will get squished! |

I woke up in my staff chalet once with the biggest motherfucking huntsman spider i've ever seen on my face
I nearly shat the bed.
I pick them up though when my divvy bird freaks out after seeing one the size of a 5p piece 20ft away. |

I'm not fussed either way
Wouldnt say I have a particular liking for them but I don't dislike them either
I never kill them I always put them outside
My eldest daughter on the other hand is terrified of them to the point she locked herself in the bathroom once because there was a spider just outside the bathroom door and she was to scared to pass it, and waited there till I got him from work to remove it, she's been in there about 5 hours |
