If I was very hungry and there was nothing else, then possibly yes.

I was in Hong Kong with a french friend of mine when he ordered a dish at a street market. The chef picked up a puppy from a cage, butchered it (quite noisily) out the back and shortly thereafter, dinner was served.

I was like, HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU EAT THAT?!

But hey.

OMG......

Even though I'm Veggie , I respect peoples choice of diet..... I have no problem with those who choose to eat meat..

I'm of a mind that their is no real difference between raising any animal intended for food consumption as long as the animals welfare is given appropriate consideration ....

But puppys are cute .... unless they shit on the carpet.....

Not by choice no.

I have killed and prepared animals for food but I have a golden rule:

I won't eat predatoy animals

I was offered hyena, chimpanzee, and leopard meat in south Africa. I was there 8 months and tried alot of game like antelope, buffalo and warthog ( unfuckingbelievebly nice)

There is a natural order to life and this is it. Some animals are genetically predisposed to being killed and eaten by others.

"why do you ask?

The News channel was showing a report extoling the efforts of a female who helps Dog Farmers find alternate means of income in countries where Dog is considered an acceptable food option ....

I was impressed that rather than criticise these farmers she actually helps them....

Who knows what we're actually eating in the first place, so in among all the processed meat, straight up dog sounds rather nice.

"Think there was a news report about a guy who are his 'trusted 4 legged friend' in the wilderness (Alaska?)as the option was death..

either way in that situation the dog will have no qualms about eating its owner and cats have done so before when the owner died and they had no food..

under normal circumstance then no as i love our 2 but the will to live will over ride our 'normal' every time for most i would suggest.. "

I've eaten Dog, Alligator, Elephant and Rabbit. Though I felt really conflicted about eating the rabbit for some reason!

Dog meat is, like any other meat, best served in a dish with lots of flavours, otherwise it is tasteless.

Lol you're probably right. They work harder so the slow cooked tough bits would taste better.

Steaks, fillets, and meat from animals that don't work them bits will taste better. I.E grazing animals.

Why?? Elephant

Because unlike us rich cunts (please don't take that personally) posting and reading this. Some people on this planet are so poor and hungry they will resort to killing and eating whatever they need to survive.

Couldn't agree with you more. It's one thing to be forced to survive, and quite another to go and pay for something. I didn't pay for my meal though, just to make it clear as it seems you're judging me. I was in Africa for charitable purposes and was working in the villages when I was invited to sample it. You don't deny or turn down invites out there, especially when you're guests on an aid mission - it's considered incredibly rude.

Please also do remember that the notion of eating elephant and dogs and things is abhorrent to you, but normal to many other groups.

I don't feel the same empathy for most people that I do for dogs. I guess I'm just too hard nosed.

Humans lie, cheat and betray for the tiniest of advantages whereas with a dog you always know exactly where you stand. So in a survival situation I'd much rather have a dog by my side than another person.

Oh... haha... totally wasn't judging you personally. Worry not. I wouldn't have actually used that vocabulary either but I was replying to bullet boy up there and his post made me smile so borrowed his expression.

Like you say, you weren't eating off a menu (and you don't need to justify yourself... I was curious as to why you'd find yourself choosing that on a menu), I'm sure it is common fodder in many places rightly or wrongly in my brain.

I generally don't eat cartoons so when Bambi and Thumper are on the menu I pass. For no other reason than I'm a bit odd and have all sorts of texture issues with food. And you can't eat Bambi man!!!

Dogs are used to assist the blind, the NHS now prescribes dogs to Epileptics, the NHS will also begin using dogs to detect or 'sniff' cancer (according to proposals).

There's a reason why I'd love to have a dog at my place to come home to, I just can't look after it.

I completely agree, Dog really is mans' best friend.

All very fair and valid points......

I think as a nation we are a fascinating breed......

From my own perspective I could never select a human to be killed instead of dog if the motive was driven by a need for food.....

I kinda guess even without a bond of familiarity or loyalty there would be no dilemma in my mind...

If I saw a baby and a dog drowning in a canal.... I'd always try and save the baby first...

But yeah I understand your points....

I've watched that many youtube vids on how to grow your own food..invertebrates!

mealworms,

snails,

woodlice(apparently really prawnish)

rather eat these than probably butchering mammals to be honest..

though I respect to some, animals have no function other than to be used...I still dont think that means they should suffer any longer than necessary in life or approching death.
