This practice comes under fire often, the act of a male coming to the supposed rescue of a woman being criticised/insulted/attacked online. It seems to me that most see it in a very cynical fashion, in so much as the guy in question isn't doing it out of genuinely noble concern for the womans well being, but its rather a slimy attempt to curry favour from her for personal gain.

My question is, what are others thoughts on this? How do you tell the difference between one and the other, and why do you believe guys do it so often?

Never had anyone do it for me, but I would ask the question, in what circumstances?

I think it's genuine most of the time as we seem to have an inbuilt gene to protect...the slimy obvious ones usually can be detected.

it's another one of those insults that are thrown out too often.

if he wants to agree, his choice.

Alright, then in that case, why do you think it gets used as an insult?

They usually occur must frequently when a woman starts a thread about being rejected or stood up.

Cue, a rush of 'what an idiot, I'd meet you in a heartbeat' type posts

I don't over analyse it. I just accept and carry on. Sometimes its obsequious, mostly not though.

You often see it from the forum lurkers

They don't have much to say or contribute in a regular basis, and then pop up like gophers when they think they might gain attention

You can be supportive of individuals without being seen as desperate though

Agreed it's rather pathetic when you see such things, almost like the guys see said woman a sandwich with damaged packaging and reduced for a quick sale.

Though having said that I do like cheap sandwiches

I meant as in, why would the person using it as an insult do so, would they have any motivation beyond 'I don't like the person I'm insulting'?

for the same reason as the 'white knight' is doing it, to appeal to others.

I've seen women do it to men too and I don't really see what the problem is. Someone sees an opportunity to make contact with someone they fancy and they take it, and if the two people click beyond that initial contact then it was worth it. If they don't the conversation quickly fizzles. No harm done.

I think agreeing with posts is fine. The simpering "please fuck me" undertones are .

I think most on here can tell the difference between a little banter and someone being deliberately offensive. But I've seen plenty women in my time stick up for guys.

Now, black knight to C6. Let's see what you've got!
