I'll be honest, I have no idea what to expect or what to do, but I have bought some joggers and a t-shirt and have my induction tomorrow eve.

I need to lose 47.3kg to be healthy, accoring to the NHS BMI thingy. Not looking to be an adonis, just looking to not die early (and be more shaggable lol )

Anyone got any tips and other stuff I need to know?

Your diet will help with weight loss greatly too so try and eat nice and healthy And remember that even walking somewhere you would normally drive all counts towards your exercise. Best of luck to you!

Don't rely on exercise to lose weight, you'll lose much more if you change your eating habits.

Lots of water, a good multi vitamin and replace cakes and biscuits with fresh fruit and protein snacks, like a handful of almonds, a hard boiled egg, 1 oz of cheese. Small changes add up.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Don't go by BMI, its a crock. And also set realistic goals. 1kg a week is good to aim for. And as said above, its diet that will do the most to reduce the weight. Exercise just rearranges what you have into a more pleasing shape.

Also look up BMR (Basic Metabolic Rate) and TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure).

Last week I've started to drink more water and eat fruit at work. I no longer buy a big bag of crisps when I go shopping.

Also changed to those "healthier" ready meals. Yes, I know it's healthier to cook, but I get in from work and am too knackered.

dead simple, eat better and move more, your body burns calories through exercise,,, aerobic work outs will burn fat and add a little definition, to build muscle definition light weights and lots of reps.... to build muscle... heavy weights and lots of protein...

be realistic and even if you jog at 10 k an hour on the treadmill for 15 minutes, then next time do do 10.5 k per hour for 20 minutes..

keep at it, and you will notice a massive change in 3 weeks...

don't exercise the same muscle group each time... and don't eat shite...no god doing 15 minutes in the gym and eating a family bucket from KFC

beans on toast with no butter and wholemeal bread is so good once a week and allow yourself some treats...you don't need to spend shit loads of money at weightwatchers....

grill instead of fry and don't buy ready meals... buy a slow cooker and throw some veg in for a casserole before you go out... lazy eating is an excuse....

What about batch cooking in advance and freezing?

Check the sugar content in them. You could do a stir fry in not much more time than it takes to microwave one. That way you know exactly what you're consuming. One step at a time though, well done you.

Plenty of good advice above, and don't put any faith in BMI, it's a load of rubbish.

What worked for me was running, running and more running. Fat is broken down into co2 and h2o, so the more you sweet and pant, the more weight you'll loose, of course your diet is important too but once I got down to my ideal weight I can eat pretty much anything

Agree about the bmi. My gym has a boditrax machine and the gym instructor said I would be a bone if I followed their recommendation. My target is at least 10kg heavier than the machine recommended x

BMI can go fuck itself.

I agree re diet, both are important but if your focus is weight loss then diet will be the main thing.

I'm not exactly a gym bunny so probably not best placed to advise but I suppose the only thing I can advise is try and find something you like. I'm getting back into swimming because it's the only sport I've ever enjoyed and it feels far less of a chore than other things do. And from experience I know once I get to a point with that, I start wanting to do other exercise, weights and so on to make me better at the swimming.

Lol I look at at my BMI and compare it to my target BMI and it frightens me! I'm pretty sure I'll NEVER achieve my 'ideal' BMI even if I diet for the rest of my life!

Sometimes U.K

Good for you realising the need to get fit

Take small steps..ignore the total weight you need to lose and focus on losing 5kgs at a time.

As others have said try and cook your own meals instead of the sugar laden so called 'healthy meals'. Porridge for breakfast, mid morning fruit snack of an apple or banana and make your own salad for lunch.

Your body will start to look and feel toned within 2 weeks and after 4 weeks your friends will notice.

Keep with it

Try the Dukan diet ? High protein No carbs whatsoever, drink plenty of water and at the gym 30 min cardiovascular followed by medium weights 3 x 15 reps.

Instead of ready meals use your microwave to cook rice or new potatoes. Have some tuna or cooked chicken with it and microwave veg. I wouldn't take a multi vitamin, eat a variety of fruit, veg and nuts to maintain your health on a cellular level. Don't starve your cells of nutrients. You can do it

I wouldn't even think about the weight you want to lose. You will notice your clothes getting looser, when your trousers start to fall down weigh yourself. I did that and I'd lost 10 kilos.
