I've had a Google but I'd like some advice from those in the know here.

Do PT's have to have any form of qualifications?

How much can I expect to pay?

Is it reasonable to 'interview' beforehand?

Thanks guys.

all the training advice you need from PT`s is on youtube

what i`d invest in is a nutrition plan/diet from someone qualified

results are 90% diet dependent usually

The one I used was qualified.

I emailed him and then went to meet him.

He was reasonable back then, still pricey but he's even more expensive now.

It was worth doing, he made me feel at ease and when I saw one of his employees he also made me feel at ease. It's definitely worth making sure you're comfortable if you're spending a wad of cash on it.

You could check at your local gym, most have personal trainers and the rates are cheaper.

Personally I liked that the place I went to was private and I didn't have to trip over all the beautiful people when I was so self conscious.

It totally worked. Was worth every penny cause I stuck with it and was really good on the dieting side because I had to hand in my food sheet every week. I shed three and a half stone between the May and September.

Good luck.

You should look for someone who is level 2 fitness instructor and level 3 personal trainer qualified through a recognised training body. ActiveIQ for example. And you'll pay around £25 per hour session depending on location I guess.

Thanks, it's now the exercise I need as I'm a low-carber and have been for 9 years.

I'm already 8-9 years down the line of my eight stones weight loss, what I need now is the fitness and toning to keep away advancing age. I'm ex-army and thrive when somebody is screaming at me!

Wow... go you!!

I know just how hard that must have been. Find someone you like and go for it. You might get lucky and find someone advertising on Gumtree or the like... Facebook is also worth a look. My cousin is a PT and he has a page.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

My gym gives out free sessions with their stable of PTs. Only one session each though, then its £25. Mine was an incorrigible flirt but I learnt some good things from him, and found out that even buff guys can have bingo wings when their muscles are relaxed.

You want someone who is level 3 quailed , and not one of these "qualify in a week" courses, look for someone who is premier or ymca trained, also someone with experience, also ask them a lot of questions, don't forget you are employing them! Regarding price it will vary but you should be looking between £30-£50 for a good trainer, also might be worth doing a one off taster session to see if it's for you!!

Actually, the weight loss was very easy, I gave up carbs and now I'm not addicted to food any more. I like exercise but I hate doing it on my own and REALLY get off on hard, sweaty and loud exercise (sex aside of course).

If you lived closer I'd come with you. I hate doing it on my own too. I lack totally in motivation and need someone to push me. Hope you find someone to bark at you!

As an aside, I love your profile and you look great for your efforts.

I'm actually thinking of starting boxing again if you'd be interested. I'm thinking it would keep my mind off the fags too.

Before anyone says anything, I'm not looking to beat Topsy (or anyone else) up.

Chapel gym in Whitwick was where I used to go. It's not super serious and has a nice relaxed feel. The instructor will surprise you.

It's a bit of a way to travel, I'll end up not justifying the petrol but I like the sound of boxing.

Who's the instructor then?

A little bloke who doesn't look like he can punch his way out of a paper bag. I totally underestimated him...

Have a look at freeletics on the web..If you can inspire yourself to train, without a trainer directing you. Fantastic results, even get a brill diet plan, alot cheaper than paying a PT..

I also agree, with the Internet/you tube you really dont need a personal trainer as all the information you need is at your finger tips, all you need is the desire and motivation.
