At work.
Watching it live on a TV that was permanently set to BBC news.
Nobody got any work done that day and customers/clients stopped coming in - even those who'd booked appointments weeks before. My company had an office in one of the towers and although I didn't know any of them personally it was a very surreal day. Everyone was just numb and full of disbelief.
The same happened for the 7/7 London bombings.
Not something anyone ever wants to witness again.

I was living in Munich, my son was having an MRI scan and my partner kept calling me. Eventually answered when outside waiting for results, went back in and turned their telly on watching it all unfold. First time in the 6 months I had lived there I watched the box. Glued to it all day and night. |

I'd called into my friends work and popped to the newsagents and I heard the news saying a plane had crashed, went back and told her and we put the television on just before the second plane hit, then everything just happened |

I remember being offshore on a rig when the Oklahoma bombing happened in 1995 ....
The vast majority of the crew were American and their reaction was fear, devastation and utter incredulity that such a thing could ever happen on mainland USA.... |

I was working to open a brand new business the following day-it was hectic to say the least so none of us had the radio or tv on. Then I switched it on about 6pm and the second tower collapsed I think very soon after. We were all dumbfounded. Keep getting goosebumps today when I think about it x |

I was at work, but we were watching on the telly after the first Tower had been hit and still kind of assumed it was just a tragic accident when the second Tower exploded live on TV.
That was the horrendous moment I knew that this was more than just a horrendous civil aviation accident and I think we all knew then war was imminent |

I woke up after the first plane hit.
I was living at my mums at the time.
She knocked on my door and said "turn the tv on"
I did and minutes later the second plane hit.
I thought it was the start of a huge war. |

I was at work when a mate told me about it.. never believed him saying it will be a publicity stunt or something.
Was shocked when I saw it on TV.. remember watching different footage of it all day. |

I tried to avoid it as people kept informing me of the horror. The reason being that I had relatives that could be involved and I had been in the towers 12 months previously so could visualise what people were going thru.
When I got home that evening I got a call to say everyone was ok but then saw film of a relative covered in dust walking away from it.
Very scary

At home feeding my 1 year old daughter. My dad rang in complete panic and I turned on the TV and only to watch, in horror the 2nd plane hit. Incomprehensible and still, do this day live in disbelief |

I was at home. I'd only been back a couple of days or so, recovering from the jet lag. I'd only just flown back from Chicago where I'd been working on stage for a month. ( was performing in Arsenic and Old Lace ). It was really surreal watching it, and truly gut wrenching. Was living in Southend at the time . Horrible. Truly horrible. |

I was decorating the dining room of my old house in Nottingham...heard the news about the first plane on radio 1 on the old mark and lard show...didn't really register as I remembered a small plane doing the same a few years before...then they announced the second strike and I didn't get an iota of work done for almost the rest of that week...I became utterly obsessed with the idea that they may pull people out so watched sky news almost day and night... |

In Majorca, sat in the hotel bar watching it on TV waiting to be pick-up and taken to the Airport. We got picked-up not knowing if we could fly home. We checked in but when it was time to board the plane, we had to find our luggage in front of the plane and hand it to them to load on. If any thing was left, it was left behind. The flight home I was nervous and any sudden movement the plane made, shit me up

On a plane flying home from a girlie holiday in Cancun. We were grounded in Florida, put in a holding room and left there for 3 days. It took 7 hours before we were allowed to call home, to say families were terrified is an understatement. |

Working at a print plant in Slough, came over the radio and at one point in the afternoon, having tried to carry on with sport/weather bulletins as usual etc, the DJ said"this is crazy, lets stick solely to whats happening". Vivid memories of that day |

In the air, landing at a military airport. Everyone seemed a bit twitched when we landed but I didnt think anything of it but when I went online when I got to the office I saw the news.
Spent the entire evening watching the news with colleagues in the only bar that we could find that had a generator so that we could watch the TV. |

I was at parent and toddler group. Nobody was really that shocked or bothered about it. I think society has accepted that war is normal and people die because of them? |

Working at my first job as an office junior at the Walt Disney offices in west London when I was 17. Our building was evacuated as a safety precaution as we were an American company and no one knew what would happen next. I refused to leave and had to be escorted from the building and wait for my mum to come across London on the tube to pick me up and bring me home as I was so frightened. |

Yes I was at home and saw some footage on tv of the planes hitting the towers not sure if that was live or recorded Then, but also listening to those terrible events that day made me realise Things were not going to be the same as before these terrible events, I remember People on the ground as witnesses recalling "jumpers" as they called them Seeing them fall and hitting the ground Thou I must admit anyone who could witness That could witness most things, those People falling had little choice in how they would leave their loved ones But they had to make the choice, to pass out with the shock would have been merciful for them but that day the world shuck and still is doing With on going terrorism stirred up at The time of 9/11, it started with saddam, but Insurgency was always ready to lift its ugly head if ever the time was right and lift its ugly head it did like a gorgon from the depths of the sea with many heads all Seeking to destroy with isis being one Of them any excuse to kill westerners is good enough for them war or no war. |

Was in Dover, working in the Albert, and was outside having a fag while clearing the outside tables. Saw a crowd of people huddled round Radio Rentals window, and wondered WTF was going on so had a look myself.
Pub mood wasn't great that day

Sat at home having a cuppa and awaiting the arrival of our taxi that was taking us to the airport for our holiday. The news said flights were being cancelled and I'm ashamed to say that my first thought was not for the victims but that I might not be able to go on holiday |

I (her) was at a conference and wondered why people were in reception crowding round the TV. As I edged closer I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Both Towers had been hit and I phoned my parents. I remember speaking with mum as I watched the first Tower collapse.
Exactly a year later I was at a client site with another colleague. In her newspaper were pictures of all the British people who died. She pointed one out and said she had known him. It suddenly become much more personal. |

I was in the air flying to JFK airport in New York! We circled a bit south of Greenland before finally diverting to Halifax, Nova Scotia. When we parked up on the runway with another airliner parked beside us Irealised something big was happening.
It took a few hours before we were allowed off the plane because they were having to process lots of people. The Canadians were great, really went into top gear to provide food, slerping arrangements snd entertainment for everyone. They had to deal with 44 airliners suddenly turning up unexpectedly. I ended up kipping on a camp bed in a exhibition hall for a week before they finally flew us home. |

I was watching it in LA at work, had all the TVS brought into the offices and turned on. We had friends who worked on the airlines and so it was real and really happening to us and them .... America understandably went crazy then, it was a very, very scary place to be. For months afterwards I was shaky at meetings in skyscrapers in LA .... |

We had been into town... Came home put on the TV watched for a moment and thought I had it on a film.. Listened and watched and realised that it was actually real. Was horrified as we watched it played for the rest of the day.
Nothing can compare to the shock and sadness of that day.
